So, I've decided that I want to switch my kitties' dry food.

I have another thread going asking about Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul (and was considering feeding them the Adult Light formula), and am seriously considering switching them to that. We've tried a few different types of cat food...here are the problems we've been having and why we've considered switching...

1. We fed them Purina One Advanced Hairball & Healthy Weight, but then our Sunny girl started having constant diarrhea (we think due to the yogurt they add to their food
).

2. So we tried feeding them Purina Naturals, but now Hobbes gets fairly consistant (at least once a day) hairballs. (Don't worry, I've checked, and they are indeed hairballs, not vomit.)

So, today I heard about Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul, and looked at the ingredients, and read a little in past posts about people's opinions, and it looks like the right choice.

My only concern: how to help Hobbes with his hairball problem. Is there anything I can add to their diet that will help with this? Please let me know...

Also, how to go about switching their food so that it's the easiest transition possible for their systems...please tell me your ideas.

Thank you so much, guys!

Hugs to all,

Rosie*

My big fluffy Cheshire Cat has lots of hairballs because he's totally OCD about cleaning himself! I feed my kitties Purina Indoor Formula (which they love), brush him at LEAST once daily, and sometimes give him a hairball remedy gel (you can buy it at Wal-Mart) which helps him with his digestion.

Also, to switch the food, just try mixing a little bit of the new food with the old food gradually, instead of switching it all at once

I hate to add this, but we've tried them on the Purina Indoor formula, and found that they acted hungry ALL THE TIME, even when they'd eated quite a lot of food. They ate more food with that, and were actually acting hungrier than other foods.

So, I'm sorry to say, Purina Indoor will not do it for my babies.

BUT...I will include brushing once a day into the routine. Funny, too, because he sheds A LOT LESS than his sister...but they do bathe each other, so he could be getting HER extra hair and having a problem that way.

Thanks!

My cats just love it... maybe it's like Chinese food for cats... you eat, and 15 minutes later, you're hungry again! lol!

Brushing really helps a lot, and it's good bonding, too. Cheshire Cat loves being brushed, so I brush him two or three times per day sometimes. I can't believe he has so much freakin' hair!

Maybe he sheds less because he's licking all his hair off? Some cats just shed more, and some cats just cough up more hairballs. I used to have a very fluffy Japanese Bobtail who NEVER in her life coughed up a hairball, which was pretty impressive.

I've been wondering about hairbals with my kitty. She hates being brushed always claws & scratches even though I tried brushing from a tiny kitty. A couple of weeks ago she was vomiting up her breaky & lunch, not much hair. My 15 y/o has always brought up hairballs regularly. Will this come with age for kitty? Do you think it is OK to put liquid parafin on her dinner once a week? Would this help? I don't know what's available in Aust. for hairballs.
Other than that how do I get her to like being brushed? She's semi-longhaired.

You need a vet visit and a senior panel done
