Lick spot?

Well, my darling mommy-to-be has licked herself raw right at the base of her tail. I noticed it the day before yesterday, but she did not want to let me lift her tail to look at it. Then yesterday, there was no need to lift the tail as the spot had grown, and has grown more as of today. Pictures on the internet that are closest to the same are lick spots on dogs. Has anyone here been through this with a cat before and is it safe for me to put on a bitter treatment to stop her from licking?
Thanks a bunch.

p.s. she was in false labor about a week ago, she is not due until April 7th.

call the vet because adding something to it might irritate it. I wonder if there is something wrong with it or a lea or tick bite her. Can ya post pictures here.

I am now suspecting anal sac abcess because of it's location. (I went ahead and posted on the health thread about it too) She nipped at me when I tried to get a better look, so my friend is on her way to hold her so I can get a better look-see. I will see if I can figure out a picture, but you all may not want to see this, it is not pretty!!
It is also concerning me that cats will lick excessively if they have unusual discharge, and in the case of pregnancy, this can mean fetal death (she had false labor a week ago).
I am going to check her out thoroughly when my friend gets here.
Thanks

Okay, it is in the 10:00 position in relation to her anus, and anal glands are said to be at 8 and 4. We are off of abscess idea and back to lick spot. I have not felt the kittens move today, so we are going to stop guessing and head to the vet. She is very difficult to hold on to right now, so getting a pic of this is challenging. I got two blurry ones.

Hang on!!!

My Reecie did the same thing - about the size of maybe a 1.5-2cm circle maybe? Or is it bigger? Reecie's was about that big and my vet said not to worry but if it IS bigger than that, a vet visit is warranted. True enough, the fur is back now and nothing untoward happened. My vet gave me no explanation and really at the time I didn't really question him as I usually would. Also, the kittens did like to lick that particular area for some reason.

If you really are worried about it, visit the vet and that's the best advise I can give you at the moment, sorry!
