I only feed my cat one pouch of wet food per week (half on Sunday and half on Wednesday). Unfortunately, it is the same make as one of the foods on the recall list. Fortunately, he hasn't eaten more than 15 packages in total in that period of time.

Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for in terms of symptoms of kidney damage? His water consumption has not changed, his urine habits haven't changed, his behaviour is the same (still a little monster) and he has not been vomitting or had diarrhea. I really don't want to submit him to intrusive and expensive tests if he isn't likely to have any problems. Money is tight and I have heard these tests can be quite costly.

While I would move heaven and earth for my little Louis, I also don't want to be an alarmist.

Any thoughts?

Sounds to me like he will be just fine.

There are links to sites for symptoms info in the recall thread, please read through the thread in the Health and Nutrition section to find LOTS of good info links.

If you were to do the test for your own peace of mind, it would probably just be a simple blood test to check the kidney enzymes, BUN and creatinine. The same screen that is offered for surgeries could probably be done and you'd get some additional values as well. However, it doesn't sound like your kitty is showing any signs, so you could also just keep an eye out for changes.
