Do any of you ever look at the "pets" section on Craigslist.org? I have been looking there lately and some of the ads range from just plain stupid to terrifying. Someday I will cease to be amazed at humans.

For example, this one was just posted:
"my orange kitty will be having kittens any day. she has only real pretty kittens calicos. whites, peaches and orange I have seen a few people looking for kittens. if you want to get first dibbs on one let me know. the adoption fee will be $35-$25 depending on sex and color. I'm in SE portland mt tabor area. here is a picture of mama"
So, the cat has had more than one litter. Sheesh.

Then there are the puppies purchased for kids who no longer want to take care of them, the pitbull BYB (poor dogs), people who buy a purebred for $600 and expect to get that for the pup/cat when they decide they no longer want it. Craiglist pets ads are for re-homing only, no sales.

Then there is the 11 yr old Siamese who has been with her owner for 10 years, but since they now have a 1 yr old child, need to find a place for the cat because the child picks on the cat.

Oh, a good one was the husband who brought home a kitten for his wife then finds out she is allergic. Umm, ya think that may have come up in coversation at SOME point in the relationship?

How do people go through life not knowing they are allergic to animals? Don't they ever run into them until they adopt? Don't the allergies act up WHILE they are at the shelter/breeder? Why do the allergies only kick in after a month or so?

Also, the two male 6 yr old cats adopted as kittens but now the family is giving them up because they are expecting a baby.

Of course, there are many more. I think most are just poor excuses for bad decisions. Don't know why I keep looking. I don't look at car wrecks; dunno why I feel compelled to look at these. Maybe just sending out good vibes to the poor animals.

There are some good people who post there. The ignorant ones seem to be more prevalent.

i check out the ads every day and some just make me soo mad, someone literally made a post needing kittens for his pet snake
and well i made a post bout it here and had people flag him down and he kept going and posting so I kept flagging it down! But someone got a purebreed now and shes selling it for alot of $$$$ and well people keep flaggin her down about it and theyve actually made posts arguing about it !!!! And people keep saying u know this is to rehome animals, also there is someone that works at a shelter and what makes me mad is people keep flaggin her down
when she posts the pics and info on the kittens or puppies and she does have an adoption fee of $100 but thats how much it is at shelters and such u know !!! And today someone is trtying to get rid of their 8 year old cats who are declawed and everything and they want them to go to a family with young kids!! And shes raised these 2 since they were kittens but doesnt have the time anymore
it just makes me so mad any more to read the pet ads on the craiglist !!!

I used to read the ads almost daily, so many sad stories. I still visit sometimes and contact people giving kittens away too young etc. try to educate them.

the one that made me mad was an add for VEGAN kittens free to VEGAN homes
WHAT ARE THEY THINKING
Sorry, it still kinda burns that people don't educate themselves on these matters

I can't say that Craigslist is all bad though. if not for the Craigslist pet section I never would have found my darling Diesel

omg, last night there was this person that put something up saying "my dog went through my garbage" I clicked on it and there was this poor dog chained in an outside rusty old garbage can. I tried to email the person. they also said they hoped the trash guy would take it away with the dog into. What the hell is wrong with people.

I don't read the pets section on Craigslist anymore because it really upsets me.

I thank everyone who emails and tries to educate the people who post those kinds of ads.

That's the problem I have with Craigslist. Since you pretty much post for free on there, ANYONE will post whatever they want.

I know about a year or 2 ago Craigslist has to post guidelines for animal adoptions in the Metro Detroit area. People pretty much follow them now.

As for the allergy thing, some people develope allergies as adults. They may have had a cat growing up, but if they hadn't had one in a while, they could develop allergies and not know it...especially if you don't go in for allergy testing.

I don't really read craigslist for the Houston area-- but i have it bookmarked-- I am however a moderator for our local county free cycle group. The group owner decided a while back not to allow any pet postings. When i see people on the group post for looking to find homes for pets, i will reject their post via email giving them many options and suggestions. No one has ever responded back to my emails but I try to help.

I LOVE freecycle!! Good for you that you are a mod on that group!!! I've gotten rid or so much stuff on that list that goodwill wouldn't take! The local rescue groups ganged up on the local freecycle here and they did eventually ban pet ads.

I don't read the pet ads on Craigslist cause I can't stand the excuses people offer as a cover up for their ignorance. You hear the same excuses when you volunteer at shelters.

If it weren't for craigslist I would have never found PHX. But listen to the excuse I got when I went to go look at PHX!!! The lady (I'll call her Carrie) Ok. So Carrie says that she had 7 cats and when one of them ran away she got upset and really missed him. Ok understood. So she went to a humane society and got a new one to replace him. Ok, cool. So then when her other cat came home. What did she do? Tried to get rid of the one she got at the humane society! She said that 8cats is to many, even though she "bonded" with PHX. Let me tell you, this lady was seriously !CrAzY! She was a cat lover- I'll give her that. But just plain weird.

I do look on craigslist just to see what's on there. But these people need to decide whether or not they want the animals BEFORE THEY ADOPT!! gosh
