Crystal litter

After reading about the crystal type litters being the best I decided to give them a try. They say you don't have to change them for 4 weeks. The 1st time I used Cat San Crystals. I removed feces each time. After 6 days it was really on the nose & had to change it. I then read that it worked better if you put pearls in 1st, so I did. This time it lasted 10 days. I'll have to change it today.
Has anyone else used it & found the same thing. I can't imagine it lasting for the 4 weeks.

What do you mean, "lasts" for four weeks? I use Pet Gold and scoop it every day and after about four weeks it is all gone so I completely wash out the litter box and then replace with new litter. I suppose if I used more litter I could make it last six weeks. But the only reason I ever have to replace it is of course because I remove some each day.

I've been using crystals cat litter for years. I've tried all different brands but my favorite is Tidy Cats Crystals. For my 2 it usually lasts 2 weeks before I need to completely change and wash the box. However during that time the box rarely smells. The crystals do a good job of keeping the odor down, and it doesnt track all over the house and make a big mess. Just a bit outside of the box.

PHX would HATE ME if I let his kitty litter go for 4 weeks! If I dont' change it completely once a week- I know he's upset because he'll scoop the kitty litter out with his paws. OOPS guess he doesn't like that huh! But 4 weeks that seems a little extreme! Cats like fresh litter not smelly dirty litter thats been sitting around. HUH I would like to know who thought of this crap.

Their box gets cleaned every day (twice), I do not let it go four weeks! I clean out every single little bit of crap as you call it and every clump of urine. When I am done, there is nothing left but CLEAN SAND left in the box. Sand I would stick my own face in to. What I was saying is that after about four weeks it runs out so at that time I take the litter box out and scrub it with soap and water inside and out and then put a new bunch of litter in. I do not use crystal (whatever that is) but the kind I use can be totally cleaned every day. You cannot miss any urine because it clumps into a ball and I search for and remove anything that would make the box offensive and only leave clean sand.

kalikat, are you talking about clay litter with crystals in it or that type of litter that looks like a bunch of chunky crystals and is suppoosed to dry everything out so it doesn't smell (I can't remember if they absorb the urine or help it evaporate)?

Yeah the crystals-only litter absorbs the urine in the crystals and after some time they actually become dry to the touch and they are also supposed to lock in the odor in the crystals. So you never scoop out the pee you just stir the litter around.

The crystals only litter lasts up to 4 weeks for one cat. That is the key. For 4 cats, it lasts 5-7 days here.

Maybe I should try crystals. I have 2 kittys and change the cat litter daily even though its not smelly as well as scoop when they go number 2, miles looks into the box and if he sees a turd I missed he will sit there until I clean the entire thing. He also will wait for me to put deodorizer in it. Its hilarious. I must try crystals.. I'm sure he'll love it.

I like the Tidy Cat crystals. I can't stand the smell and dust of litter, and the crystals don't smell. You just have to make sure that it is stirred every day or you get the urine smell and of course, scoop the poops. I have 2 cats, one heavy urinator and I change it out about every 20 days.

They look like quartz crystals with some blue crystals. The crystals turn yellow & urine goes to the bottom of the pan. Sinse I bought it there have been lots of other brands turning up in the supermarket.
