It's widely accepted that you must not vaccinate a female who has any possibility of being pregnant. Vaccinations with live virus during pregnancy can produce kittens with Cerebellar hypoplasia, a brain malformation that leads to tremors and unusual jerky movements.

My question goes to the wait time after vaccination before a queen is put to stud. I have noticed varying rules between Veterinarian's on other things and I am wondering if this area has a standard wait time. I have been unable to find much information in any of the books I have consulted.

My question for breeders: What is your Veterinarian's opinion on how long you should wait after annual vaccinations before putting your queen to stud and do you use attenuated (modified live ) or inactivated (killed) vaccine.

Thank you in advance to all who add to this discussion.

Only killed vaccines for me - too many horror stories on attenuated vaccines.

As for timing - my vet says to wait at least 30 days before mating
But really, I've had no problems with vaccinations and matings - but then it was months apart

I agree with the rest of them killed vaccinations only, for me, I only use FVRCP and rabies, and waiting before breeding, if she was vaccinated recently.

Do you all wait months (more then 2) based on what you were told by your Veterinarian or is this your choice of time, just to be on the safe side?

My main question was, How long does your Vet recommend you wait after vaccinations?
