Hello everyone,

I recently went to the cat rescue centre and found a lovely six month old kitty and I decided that I wanted him! He had to stay in the cattery until he had been neutered and then I could pick him up. Unfortunately, the British weather was not too kind and lots of the cats in the cattery got cat flu, my little baby Alan being one of them. So, he was quite unwell and I decided that he would be better off at home where I could give him all the TLC he needed. So armed with eye cream and anti-biotics he came home. He is much better although he was sneezing blood and the vet saw him, I was very worried but he was okay. He is still sneezing and his nose is a little sore, bless. He is a lovely longish haired ginger. As he got cat flu he wasn't able to be neutered and he is seeing the vet again on Friday fo a check up and still has a weeks course of the anti-biotics left. He is growing realy quickly!!! Drinking his water and eating his food, not stuffing but eating a good amount and pooing well and playing and exploring! I am not sure when he will be able to get neutered now and I was wondering, will he grow quicker and bigger? And will his behaviour be different not being neutered as compared to when he is? Info would be great. And thanks to everyone for all the other really useful info on here, and of course for some of the chuckles too!

Welcome to TCS. Poor little fella, what's his name. I hope he gets back to full strength soon. My kitty, Blossom, is 6 1/2 m/o. She was a foundling. I've had her since she was 3 1/2 w/o. Getting him neutered will stop him from wandering & looking for females to mate with. hope to hear all about him in the near future.

I have found that male cats do start to get a bit stroppy, restless, and a little bit more aggressive (I don't mean in terms of attacking you, but in terms of playing too rough) as their hormones kick in. They can also start spraying to mark their territory.

So I would have him neutered as soon as you can once he is well, as soon as he gets the all clear for surgery.
They can still have live sperm for up to a month after the neuter, so if he is to eventually be an indoor/outdoor cat you'll have to keep him indoor only for a month after his neutering to make sure he doesn't father any kittens!

Well done for taking him home and nursing him back to health, it's horrible how at this time of year the lurgy goes through shelters like wildfire.

If you have any photos of Alan we would love it if you could post some up, we are very keen on sharing photos of our babies

Thanks for that! I will definately be getting him neutered when he is well enough. Don't fancy him being out on the prowl like that! He is growing so quickly for a little kitty, I think if I don't get him done soon he will be huge!!! Thanks again for the help and nice to hear from you and another newbie. I have read quite a lot of the posts on here and everyone is so nice and helpful. I will post a pic of little Alan (rescue name that grew on me!) when I have mastered the art of the digital camera, or get boyfriend to do it, hehehe.

Thanks again!

I got my RB kitty, Leo, also a ginger boy, neutered at about 8 weeks, and he grew to be the biggest cat I ever had, a whoppin' 22 lbs. He grew for 2 years. I got my little Scooterpie done at about the same age, and he is one of the smallest cats I have ever had. That tells me that it depends on the cat and how big he was going to be anyway.
We would love to see pics of your baby. Sending out "Get Well Soon" to dear little Alan. Please keep us updated on his progress.

How old is your kitty? I had mine nuetered at three months but I have been reading here on TCS that in the UK you have to wait until 6 months.

Hi there - I've just got a new addition to our kitty-crew
a black male cat - he's about 5-6mths, and we have just booked him to be neutered and to be honest I cant wait.

He's being a little devil with one of my other cats, Miss Moofi, we hate it as it is really affecting Miss Moofi
he jumps all over her, chases her, pinches her food, and generally is a little horror !

So for all those reasons and I dont want him being a daddy and leaving smelly calling cards
he's having his tackle sorted PDQ !

I'm glad you'll be getting little Alan neutered when he is well- you are being a very responsible pet owner! Welcome to the site- can't wait to see pictures!

I had Humphrey "done" at 5 months old. In uk that is when they advise you to have it done.

I too will have to master the picture thing and get a pic of humps up on here.

Your'e all so nice on here!!!
He seems a lot better now, eating and playing and as he is getting better he is becoming more boistrous!!!! Bless him. He did sneeze some more blood again yesterday, I find it really upsetting but off to the vet tomorrow, I spoke to the vet a few days ago and he said that as he was eating and playing he is not too concerned. I just want to get him better, poor boy. I am going to get him 'done' as soon as I can, when he is better and able to cope with it. He has a few more days of anti-biotics yet and I know he probably won't be able to be done until a few more weeks time. Fingers crossed he doesn't start spraying all over the place, although thank heaven for wood floors!!! Hehehe.

Awww poor kitty - hope he's feeling better. I'm sure in a few weeks you can neuter him. In the meantime, just keep him inside away from other cats.

Growing is a slow thing - he should be fine.
