thank you so much for this list sharky... i am going to stop giving ashley wellness until this gets sorted out. i'll give her natural balance wet and by nature organic wet instead of the wellness until they know what exactly is causing this.
sharky, i appreciate your helpful information so much!
thank you,

In addition to Sharky's list that are not connected to Menu Foods:

Chicken soup for the pet lover's soul
Castor & Pollux
Breeder's Choice/ Pinnacle (except for Chicken and Oats formula which is made by Menu food)
Triumph/Evolve

I got this source from Pet Food Express.

Brands that are made by Menu Foods that have not been recalled:

Nature's Variety
Wellness
Newman's Own Organics
Wysong
Innova

The parent companies assure they are safe to consume, so they say........

i talked with purnia today, their Mighty dog is the only thing menu foods produces for them. so other purina products would be safe.

I would add PetGuard and PetGuard Organic as options. (avail. better pet stores and online)
The ZiwiPeak btw, is a dehydrated raw, it has a consistency like small jerky bits, served as is, no reconstitution. (avail. better pet stores and online)

Also add to the list Icelandpet Trout or Salmon or Cod Liver pate. (avail. better pet stores and online)

Here is my attempt to put together a list of organic cat food brands:

http://www.kittyjournal.com/blog/ind...d=20&m=03&y=07

I find some of them in smaller pet stores. It is convenient to buy online too. Delivery fee is a pain of course but in the light of the last recall I would rather pay that than to spend way more on vets or even lose my kitties!

Some sites have auto delivery option and give good discounts for that

I feed my cats solid gold now that their nutro has been recalled. But it's just tuna.
How long before they get bored from eating the same thing?

Oh no....I bought and fed Sadie & Dexter Innova Lt. last night & this morning.

In a search for a food that my kitties could eat I called Natura yesterday and asked if they bought & processed their own food.
I was told that their only connection to Menu Foods is that they use their empty cans.
I just re-checked their web site.
http://www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=recall
It is not clear about their food coming from Menu Foods.

At this point they are not involved in the recall,
but I no longer trust a company that uses a central buyer such as Menu Foods.
The margin for error is to large.

Were did you get the information about ,
Nature's Variety, Wellness, Newman's Own Organics, Wysong and Innova ...
being involved with Menu foods?

Thanks, I was wondering about Petguard. Their website says that their products are safe, but these days you can't help but wonder where things come from.

What about Meow Mix?

I've seen nothing on any recall lists about it. I know it isn't considered the highest quality, but I've been feeding my babies with it for a while and zero ill effects.

In fact, I think that Ferris' previous loose stool issues (that dated from Dec-early Feb) were more likely than not caused by the tainted foods, as I was feeding him from a few of those other brands before switching him to the Meow Mix, because he was eating Ginger's food anyway, and that is ALL she will eat for wet food.

After the switch, his loose stool issues started clearing up and we haven't had a problem in a few weeks. I'm not even giving him the bene bac any more.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Meow Mix wet is safe.

I didn't know Wellness was manufactured by Menu Foods.

That's what Chessy has been eating every day but he has been fine.

Well, based upon what I can find on the net, only Meow Mix makes Meow Mix, and here is the ingredient list for the only flavor my Ginger will touch:

Tuna & Shrimp flavor: Tuna, Fish Broth, Ccean Fish, Shrimp, Vegetable Oil, Tricalcium Phosphate, Guar Gum, Carrageenan, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Vitamin A Supplement, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (Source of Vitamin K Activity), Folic Acid, Vitamin D3 Supplement), Minerals (Zinc Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate), Sodium Nitrite (To Promote Color Retention).

There are NO by-products, and there is NO wheat gluten in it, so it looks like we will be OK. And except for the high fish content, it looks like it's pretty healthy to me.

What about Fancy Feast? Our three kitties split one can once a day. I've been feeding them that thinking it's safe, but I just looked and some flavors have wheat gluten, some don't. Does anybody know?

Except for Meow Mix, we don't have any of those safe brands where I live.

If Innova is produced by Menu Foods then the customer rep that I spoke to on the phone yesterday either lied to me or did not know.
Either way....that's not good news.

She said that no food produced by Natura (including Innova) is from Menu Foods.
Because of that I purchased Innova Lt yesterday.
See my above post.

Who can we believe if the companies themselves, even those with good reputations, don't give us accurate information?

Just found this on Innova website:

To all Natura Pet Products customers:

By now most of you are aware of the large recall of canned dog and cat foods announced late last week. The following facts are very important:

This recall is associated with the ingredient wheat gluten, produced by a specific supplier. The types of canned foods under recall are all of the "cuts and gravy" style which Natura Pet Products does not produce.

* NO Natura products are of the "cuts and gravy" style.
* NO Natura formulas contain the ingredient wheat gluten.
* NO Natura products are affected by this recall.

Sincerely,
Natura Pet Products and Natura Manufacturing, Inc.
