I am still shaking in my skin. I was out in our backyard, on my cellphone with the hubby. Thankfully I was looking down and saw this snake in my path...

Guess I need to be more careful out there...

Not sure...I'm in the process of looking it up.

For now, I'm calling it 'Dead Snake'...

Well, now I feel bad...looks like this guy was a rat snake...and was probably out trying to rid the area of rats or mice...their main diet. However, when Alex Jr went out there with his .22, the thing raised its head up at him and hissed! Scared the poopoooo outta me and so he just shot it! According to what I read though, they are nonvenomous but will defend themselves by raising their heads and striking over and over...ok, venomous or not, that's not ok withe me. Looks so much like a rattler too...

Yeah, that is purty funny. I remember once talking to someone (not from Texas obviously) about my parents' ''deer lease''...they were like ''
what's a deer lease?
''

Texas...no other place like it I think...

Darn tootin'. Did you know that when people from the U.S. travel to foreign countries, they say they are Americans when asked, but Texans say they are Texans!

Any time I tell someone I'm a native Texan, they say, "Yee haw!" What's up with that?

O.K. back to snake...

Yep, several folks whom I've communicated with online have been amazed that I don't actually 'sound' like a Texan
When we've finally spoken by phone, they expect to hear that 'twang we're all supposed to have over here.

They also think we still ride horses as our main mode of transportation...

My accent shows up after three glasses of wine!

Horses are too slow, there's too much ground to cover, and they get spooked on the freeways.

Before this happened, I was thinkin' that I was going to start walking around our property for exercise. We were all outside yesterday doing yardwork and I noticed how out of breath I got from just walking around the place. Welp, I think I'll stick for working out...indoors!

Well, at least you didn't find this in your backyard......or under your truck like my dad did.

Yes, it's a rattlesnake. He was over 6ft long (my dads 6'2) and he weighed 30-50lbs

And my dad killed it with his barehands

Yikes! Barehanded? How on earth....???

Reminds me of the ones in some of my dad's old pics, from when he used to go huntin'...big rattlers!

Well, I've already told my kids that they're just going to have to forgive me for the next few days...I'll be a wreck for sure. Its already started too. I was sittin' here at my computer & I felt something fall on my back and I jumped. Of course as soon as I did I knew that it was the quilt I keep on the back of the computer chair.
My kids just looked at me and shook their heads...

I'll be this way for a while...
