I have 2 cats, Isis, who is a 6 year old tabby, and Akasha, a solid white little sweetheart of a 4 year old. I've had Isis for almost 5 years, and Akasha for almost all 4 years. When I first got Akasha, of course Isis hated her. She is an attention hog and a bit of a queen, but after they adjusted, they were like little lovebirds. About 3 years ago, I moved from Michigan to North Carolina, and at first, after they settled, they were happy and lovable. But then I lost my home and had to stay with a friend of mine, who ended up keeping my girls for me until I could get settled down and bring them home. Her apartment, however, was one small room and a bathroom, and despite my requests to wait until I could get the girls, she adopted an unneutered male cat. On visits, I began to notice Isis, who was previously playful and active, wouldn't come down off of a shelf, and Akasha would usually hide under the bed. I got them back about 4 months later.

But now, Isis is very tempermental, towards me, my significant other, and Akasha!! Akasha doesn't seem to be affected, except to have become much more lovable and sweet. She was never a vocal cat, but now "squeaks" all the time and shows affection. Isis, however, will growl, sometimes for no apparent reason, or hiss at Akasha...it has become rare to see them snuggled up together giving eachother a bath or just sleeping.

This has been going on for a few months now. At first I thought it might be risidual effects of living with the tomcat, and that maybe if I gave her a little time she would relax and calm down...shes always been hypersensitive, and any change has her freaked out and makes her stomach sick. She's lost most of the weight *she was up to at least 10 pounds!!* and is much more active now. She's generally a happy kitty, except for her little mood swings. Its making my whole house crazy!

Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this?

I've seen people who have tried and like Feliway plug ins in situations like this, but I haven't tried it myself, so I can't give you any personal experience with it. It may just take more than a few months for her to get over it- she may still be expecting the "boogie cat" around most corners. I hope someone else can help you more

Vet check, often cats will show personality changes and moodiness when there is something physically wrong with them.

I agree, vet check first. I'd also try feliway and time for her to get over the stress she's been through.

1) I assume they are both spayed.

2) Feliway plugins seem to work really well in dominance/opressive situations, IMO.

3) Rescue Remedy for Anxiety - it's in a bottle with a dropper

4) Of course lots of love and attention

5) Sometimes anxious cats are put on anti depressants. It actually seems to help them a lot. Don't forget that possibility.

Hope it all works out. Poor babies! (I've got one like that too - any new thing and she just hides out and loses weight 'cause she's not eating.)
