Thank you for making this a sticky and merging the threads.

This has become a nightmare for so many of us.
I am grateful that I am a member of TCS.
The information and support here has been invaluable to me.

Thank you for posting that info. Stephanie....
the way things keep changing,
I fear that we, the consumer, are only beginning to discover the extent of this mess.

Knowledge is power...
keep the info coming everyone.

It's crazy.

Yes, unfortunately. I've been checking out German cat sites, and several posters are reporting that they have Nutro cat food in their cabinets with the relevant product codes and dates. There haven't been any reports about the recall in the German media, as far as I can ascertain. Nutro is a very popular food in Europe, so I expect that other European forums have had some reports. I haven't seen any posts/threads about Iams, Eukanuba, or Hill's yet, but wouldn't be surprised if they followed. However, the Nutro sold in the EU is produced in North America, while Iams/Eukanuba and Hill's have Europen production sites, making the food under license.

With the number of online pet food companies it is not really a shock to find food all over the world

FOR THE UK MEMBERS

This afternoon i rang P & G to find out whats going on at our end.

P & G said all our foods are made and packaged in europe, but for their peace of mind they've removed the items to test and their ok, but she's asked for my details incase theres an update because i told her about TCS and that we had a few UK members who were worried which she understood, so if i hear anything i'll let you all know.

That was a good idea. Only one brand seems to be affected here, and even that isn't 100%, IMO, because in some cases the "Buy before" dates are quite different. In their panic, many pet owners didn't compare both the production and "Buy before..." dates. The German and Swiss importers/distributors are looking into it. Some dealers have pulled the brand completely, while others are still offering the food without the relevant "Best by..." dates, although the product codes and production dates are on the lists.

Dry food supposedly isn't affected. As for the canned food, look at the product codes, production dates, and "Best by...." dates.

The wet food is listed with the production code numbers for effected products. You can look up the numbers at http://www.menufoods.com/recall/product_cat.html
Some of these require you click on to the name brand website to get the codes.

Thank you all for all of the info I checked the product codes and my girl is safe thank goodness I don't know what I do without my girl. I still don't see how they let this happen and what is causing the problem. It makes me very upset that they would endanger peoples pets like this.

I have a whole huge case of the recalled Iams chicken in gravy with wild rice. I am so mad. I was planning to use it for the strays. I was also giving a little of it to my kittens who had Panleukopenia. So not only did the Panleuk get them but they were probably having organ failure from this food too.

My question is what are they going to do to compensate for this gross act of irresponisibility(sp?) ????? Is the company going to dish out $$$ to help pay the vet bills for all the animals that weren't killed but now have life long health issues because of their neglect??? SO FRUSTRATING!!!!!
My heart goes to all those affected by this stupid mistake on the producers of this catastrophy!!!!

Does anyone here have personal experience with this?

I use one of the packet “cuts and gravy†brand as sometimes treats for my girls. I looked at PETCO's website and they say to not use any of the product I have and the UPC code matches their list. Yes I quit using it as soon as I heard about the recall.

Now I am wondering if I should have all my girls tested? None of them is acting sick. 5 girls share a packet so the amount would have been small per cat. I read that it was aminopterin in the food. Does anyone know if this is stored in the cats body?

I will call my vet Monday but I am guessing they will say come get tested ...its more money for them.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is dealing with this here?

There are a number of people affected by this. The advice is to watch your cats closely. Look for excessive urination, vomiting, drinking more than normal, diarrhea, lethargy.

Vets are being overwhelmed right now, so unless you see these symptoms occuring and you have fed the recalled food, I would just keep a close eye out. Anxious moments for me as well. I have 2 cases of food ready to go back and I am watching my crew carefully. So far, I only have one that causes concern, Sierra, she is constantly meowing not her style. But, we also have a new puppy.

Encourage fluids, invest in a pet fountain if you can. Just keep vigil and hope for the best.

This just arrived in my box

P&G Pet Care Update on Menu Foods Recall

P&G Pet Care Update
March 22, 2007
We want to provide an update on the recent recall of “wet†pet foods
produced by Menu Foods, Inc.
We are deeply saddened by this situation. We know it has caused a lot of
concern and has touched pet lovers throughout North America, including our own
employees. Weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve received a lot of questions, so we want to give you the
latest information.
First, we want to assure you that this recall affects only a small portion
of our “wet†pet food products manufactured at the Menu Foods plant in
Emporia, Kansas. We have a variety of canned wet food products that are currently
available on store shelves that are not affected in any way by this recall.
We also want to assure you that our Iams and Eukanuba dry foods are not
affected by the recall, and are readily available in stores. These foods are not
part of the recall – there are no concerns at all about dry food. P&G
manufactures Iams and Eukanuba dry foods at our own plants, not at Menu Foods.
You may wonder why some “wet†food was produced at Menu Foods. In fact,
virtually every pet food company commonly uses outside partners for special or
small volume items. Nonetheless, the different branded products made by Menu
are not “the sameâ€. Our Iams and Eukanuba pet foods have unique recipes and
important ingredient differences that distinguish them from other pet food
brands.
Because of our concern for pets and their well-being, we took immediate
action to voluntarily participate in Menu Foodsâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji] “wet†food product recall and
to work with retailers to get the small portion of our “wet†products
affected by the recall off all store shelves in the U.S. and Canada.
Until the root cause of this pet health issue is found, we will not produce
any more of these products at the Emporia plant. Weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ll keep you updated when
we have more information.
Pets are an important part of all of our families. P&G Pet Care employees
share your concerns and are firmly committed to you and the health of your pet.
We are working hard to respond to your questions, and provide the
information and help you need. We value your trust and confidence during this extremely
difficult time.

I am still confused... Zissou ate food from the same plant but from before the recall dates and there is lots of conflicting stuff out there... Iams says it is anything after Dec 3, but lots of sites just say ALL dates no matter before or after. Hers was before but I don't know how the number 6115 is a date. Anyway she threw up last week (while eating this food) which is very uncharacteristic of her (only happened one other time when she was very very ill) but she seems perfectly fine. Closely monitored now, but she seems like herself.

So was her food recalled, or not?

(by the way, that food is gone and I've switched brands now)
