When we were at the vet, they told us to soak Bayley's paws in Epsom salt and warm water, but he didn't tell me how much of the salt to use.

Also- is it bad if he licks some of it after we've soaked them?

We haven't done this yet because he's done VERY well with not chewing/biting at his claws since we've put him on his meds, but I want to do it tomorrow, just so we're definately going to get rid of this infection.

Any ideas?

Amount should be listed on the box or bag, and it can be used as a laxative (should say that on the box/bag). If you dry his feet and legs as much as you can he should be ok, though if you're still worried you could have a second container of warm water to rinse his feet off in after the soak.

I have had to soak many cat legs in epsom salt and water before, my parents wouldn't take cats to the vet even for bite wounds.

I would try a couple tablespoons with an ample amount of water... it is mag cloride ( not likely toxic but try to avoid consuption)

I am sure you meant Bayley?? Not RIP Davidson

You can wrap Bayley in a towel, leaving one foot out at a time to soak. That's how I've always done it.
Somewhat narrow but deep bowel, like a large butter tub, or pitcher with the water as warm as the cat can tolerate (cools quickly the smaller the container). Sat on the floor and wedge that between my legs while sitting loose indian style and held the wrapped cat on my lap. It helps if the cat doesn't see a big container of water.

I really do suggest the floor though, preferably somewhere you can cleanup easily if the water is tipped.
