My cat went missing 7 months ago and I am still hoping I can find him. I know this is not necessarily realistic but I still want to try. In the past I have put up lots of posters, posters in all the animal hospitals/shelters, gone out walking looking for him and driven around looking for him. But my health is poor and I don't have much energy but I still want to do something to try and find him. He was a rescue cat I posted about in another thread (his name's Chandler).

Anyhow, the other day I saw a cat walk quickly by the door and I could've sworn it was Chandler. I put out food and then yesterday I got a good look at the cat and it's not Chandler but it looks almost like him. I feel certain it is one of his offspring (thankfully the cat that went missing is neutered now so he isn't having more babies...but I digress...)

So now I have this cat hanging around my back door and I'm feeding him and feel sorry for him but don't know what to do with him. He's not neutered and I have an indoor/outdoor male cat that is neutered. I don't want an un-neutered cat attacking my cat. I don't know what to do. Keeping my cat inside is not an option. He's another rescue cat and he absolutely will not stay inside- makes a huge fuss.

I don't know what - if anything - I can do about my missing cat. I miss him a lot. I really adored him. Is there anything I can do considering he went missing 7 months ago?

thanks.

I had one return after being gone for 2 years, so don't give up. Contact a local rescue group and see if they can come and trap the tom and get him neutered for you.

www.lost-pets.org might also help you find Chandler

Thanks Hissy. I really miss him. He was a very needy cat and had been homeless for probably 5 years so I'm not sure if he's even still alive but I want to keep trying.

I'll check out that site. I think all the rescue places are full up but I will tell them about this cat and see if they can help.

Your cat came back after 2 years? That is amazing!

I have heard of cats showing up after more than a year so do not give up hope. Here is an example of why you should not give up hope: We bought a home from some people who were moving to Europe. They had mentioned something about their cat being missing at the time. Somewhere about a year later this grey cat showed up on our doorstep. After a while we took it in and adopted it. The way it acted around the house we felt it had lived there before but we had no way of contacting the people we bought the house from. I feel there is a very good chance that this cat is the one that used to live in our house. So, never give up hope, I am sending vibes your way.

Don't give up hope.
I also know of a case where a cat showed up after being gone for almost 3 years.

The cat belongs to a friend of mine.
She was having a new stove delivered and Rusty got scared and ran out the front door.
We searched for months for him, then finally one day she told me she couldn't keep looking for him, she loved him and missed him but she was certain that she'd never see him again.

Almost three years later my Husband and I were sitting with her and her husband on their back porch.
We had ordered a pizza and the guys were getting ready to go pick it up, they walked through the backyard around to the front of the house to get in the car...walking down the sidewalk was Rusty.
He walked right up to Don ( my friends Husband ) Don picked him up and brought him around back.
We were all in shock, they took him to the Vet and he was fine.

The only think we could think was that when he ran out the door that day he must have been taken in by someone and cared for and had somehow got out of their house also.
We put up posters all of town, we think that whoever had him just never saw the posters or choose NOT to see them.

Rusty is still around today...he's an old Man now and he's never made another great escape.

Keep the hope alive. 18 months after hurricane Katrina, there are a group of us still helping to reunite kitties and their owners. Just last month a 15 year old completely toothless kitty showed up on her owners front step. They had been putting food out and searching for the 16 months and nothing.

Then one day she just showed up. Cats are amazing resourceful creatures. Plus since your Chandler started out as a street kitty, he most likely has very good survival instincts. this site has a lot of very good tips on locating lost pet kitties http://www.catsinthebag.org/

For the new kitty that showed up, do you know of any TNR groups in your area? Getting him neutered will help reduce the possiblities of negative interactions with your current indoor/outdoor kitty. Plus as you know.....reduce the chance of more kitties.

dont give up hope, our willie went missing for 8 months just turned out that he went really far from home and we still are in disbeilief he walked there so try differnt places for flyers, luckily tho he was microchipped and their vet figured out it was our cat! Also what that family had done was posted flyers around but just in their neighborhood so check flyers around and also the shelters things like that, all u have to do is NOT GIVE UP HOPE! And I agree with everyone on the new kittie for getting him nuetered somehow !! I am keeping u in my thoughts in prayers

Thanks you guys. I'm going to put up more posters and check the shelters. Unfortunately he wasn't microchipped. We were going to adopt him out and so hadn't microchipped him. Then we decided to keep him and then he went missing.

This new cat I'm thinking is actually female. I thought it was a boy but I don't think so anymore. She's not that big. I will look into the TNR programs but the last time I checked they were all full up/out of resources. I will check again though.
