Some other silly things are walking on all fours, Maia gets funny! She walks side ways really slowly and arches her back
. Whistle, no matter where or what she is doing she runs right up to my face
! This site of cat sounds is pretty funny! It's kessels.com/catsounds, all kinds of kitty sounds!

I tried it on Go and Yon who were napping and they woke up and stared!
Yeah, I think I detected a look of concern.

JC, who is rarely alarmed or frightened, did the same thing
Little Joey, bless his heart, showed fear but hesitantly approached to sniff my breath then gave me a little lick on my hair. The tongue-lolling seems to be the big alarm factor, altho the panting noise gets their attention.
Ah, the fun things we share on TCS

Elora's not around but Mia just did that 'stalking' thing...just sorta crouched down a bit and started moving towards me very cautiously, step by step, inch by inch...eyes & ears alert. She finally came up to me and put one paw very cautiously on my thigh & waited for me to put my hand to her face so she could sniff @ it and make sure it was me after all.

Elora just showed up and didn't seem impressed at all. She just sat there and pressed her ears flat back (looks like a great horned owl) but that was all the reaction I got from her. Mia, in the meantime, is over by my other side still trying to sniff me....

Little did all of you know, but this was an experiment to see how many crazy cat people, worldwide, could be secretly videotaped panting like maniacs at their cats

Lol @ that!

I have to say, after starting this thread the thought of people panting at their cats around the world did enter my mind. How funny.

Its quite interesting that they behave this way, isnt it?

Thanks to everyone who has been brave enough to try this goofy experiment - its great to see the results - keep em coming!

I can't believe I just did this, but I just tried it with Harvey and Forest. Harvey, who's my shy, aloof cat just sat and stared at me. Forest got really freaked out and came and started meowing and pawing at my leg.
I feel kinda bad for upsetting him.

Whitey and Luna are both in the room and so I decided to try this.

They both looked at me like, "Um Mom? Have you completely lost it?"

I got down on the floor a couple feet from Rusty and tried it. He came over and stuck his head under my chin for a few seconds then wandered off. He seemed pretty unconcerned.

Butterbean was sleeping on the floor in front of my recliner (where I am sitting with the computer, of course
). I called her and did it and she looked at me like "Is something the matter with you, or is this just more of your usual weirdness?", but she isn't sleeping relaxed on her side anymore, she's doing the loaf sleep
. Smoochie is on the arm of the couch, and when I did it at her she tensed up and looked at me with big alarmed eyes!
Ah, well, they think mom is a froot loop anyways!

That used to drive Tao crazy. She especially liked it if you did it through your nose instead of your mouth. Mi-ke doesn't care, though.

There must be something more to the results of this experiment. I wonder what it is about the panting that makes cats act upset?

I just tried it, and the only cat that reacted at all was Simba. They were all asleep, and I started panting like a dog. Shane looked up then just went back to sleep, Sumba watched me for a few seconds then got up and came over to me, and just looked at me, with those big eyes of his. Then I pet him and that was it

When Clyde was about four months old, I was working in the kitchen and stood up suddenly, whacking my head on the underside of a cabinet door. It hit right smack on the line where my skull was cracked in a freak high-school-musical accident, so the spot is extremely sensitive. I gave a little shriek and then bent over the counter, clutching my head and gasping... and the next thing I knew, Clydie was nuzzling my face and meowing ever so plaintively... bless his heart! He was truly concerned.

Dylan is somewhat more reserved, but he hurries over to be near my mom whenever she coughs hard or gets upset... and my Pearl is all over me the moment I shed a single tear, doing her best to console me. Aren't kitties wonderful?

Oh! I just remembered something that happened to a friend of mine a few years ago -- it's about a dog, but it's so relevant here:

My friend Tom's dog, Mojo, had been hit by a car and had worn a cast on one of his back legs for quite awhile, but it eventually healed just fine. Then, about a year later, Tom himself was walking on an icy street and broke his leg in 13 places. He had surgery and came home with a huge cast on his leg.

Mojo had hung back when Tom was helped into the house, watching from a bit of a distance while he hobbled in and settled himself in bed. When everyone finished fussing over him and left the room, Mojo came in and stood by the bed for a moment, regarding Tom solemnly... and then Mojo began to limp back and forth, holding up the back leg he had once broken -- as if to say, "I know how you feel, buddy."

What a wonderful dog!
