Finally sat down to do taxes this morning. I just assumed that I'm going to have to pay again this year, so I've been putting it off and putting it off. I'm going to get far enough to figure out if I need an accountant again this year. Last year we bought/sold a house and moved from one state to another. Plus my company split off and the stocks that were in our names got sold or transferred so I have a capital gains mess on my hands. I get the deer in the headlights look whenever I pull out Schedule D (gains/losses).

Anyone else procrastinating out there?

I did mine few weeks ago, found that I owe the IRS $322 this year.

So I held off filing, knowing I need to save up the money to send them, and then did my state taxes to find a refund just large enough to cover the IRS payment.

Phew!

Now I'm just holding off because I don't want to mail them the money until closer to the 15th of April.

They usually take and hold MY money for a year, and I can't charge THEM fees or penalties, so why can't they wait until the deadline to get their money from me this year?

Is that bad?

Not exactly, but I have finished my taxes and owe money so I will pay on April 16. No sense in sending it in before! And besides, April 16 is Persi's birthday, so no way I will forget.

April 16 is my 1 year wedding anniversary!!! I will be in Florida then! So, DH just did our taxes last night! We owe money too. We will have to remember to pay before then!

I'm getting money back and I have been procrastinating!

I finally got everything together yesterday, and will drop it off next week.

We have an accountant and had to wait to get in to her. March 15th we found out that even with Dh's holding money out of his checks, we STILL owe, money to the darned government. But at least the state is letting us have some back. Lordy, how much do you have to pay before you get some back? My co worker is on welfare, cuts her hours so she doesn't loose her welfare and gets $5000 back each year! Comeon, why can't I be that lucky? Granted she popped out 4 kids she can't afford so my taxes are paying for her, her hubby and her kids, plus she and her hubby are working so they get that on top of what welfare pays them. (she works 15 hours a week and he works 35 hours I think?) I wish my manager would report them but she won't.

Thank you for being with me on this!! I spent the entire day going thru 13 years worth of home improvement receipts, finding settlement papers from buying & selling homes, running to the library for forms and printing off forms they did not have. I got to a ballpark on what I am going to owe (at least for federal). And guess what? I think I am getting a small refund after all!!

I should have done this early last month!!

I still have 2 states worth of taxes to figure out tomorrow. Think I will go out for some corned beef and cabbage at the local watering hole now.

You know if you open an IRA before April 16th you can use that info on your taxes?? We do that every year and held extra $$ out of paycheck and still have to pay in. So far its looking pretty nasty!! But he has a ways to go yet.
