I started to feel like crap 2 days ago...today the worst of it has gone, but I have literally had a pounding behind the eye headache since I woke up this morning...Why won't it go away?!

If it is behind the eyes, it could be eye strain. Go and see a doctor and/or an optometrist.

Is it just localized behind one eye? It could be a migraine, rather than a headache. I suffer with migraines, and they are always on one side of my head.

Might be worth a visit to your Dr. If it is a migraine, there are some marvelous prescription medicines that could really help you. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Are you under a lot of stress lately?? It may be that, or sinus..The flu is going around here so bad now...even with the vaccine, my daughter and my best friend got it, and they had horrible headaches to start...Get well my friend...

Nat, I'd say it's stress or a sinus infection coming on.If bright light hurts your eyes, then it's most likely a migrane.Whatever it is, I am sending prayers and vibes that it goes away!!!! HUGS!!

I had a headache every single day for a number of years. I had all kinds of tests to rule out gland problems, tumors etc. My Dentist diagnosed me as having Bruxism (teeth grinding) when I sleep. He made me a mouth guard to wear at night on my upper teeth and my headaches vanished. Now I only get a migraine a few times per year.

As someone said, if it's behind your eye it's likely eye strain. Go get your eyes looked at. A contributor to eye strain is the computer monitor, too much tv, and too much reading. Maybe you need to give your eyes a rest and take a few days off the computer and from reading and give your eyes a rest?

There are 27 different causes for migraines. It's rarely a simple solution. There is a strong link between food allergies and migraines. The top five allergic foods (from the Egger et al study published in the Lancet ii (1983) 865-9:

Cow's milk
Wheat
Chocolate
Egg
Orange

(source: Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine by Murray & Pizzorno, ND's)

Throwing in one more possibility:

For 20 years, I had vicious, debilitating headaches that lasted up to four days and occurred at least three or four times a month. I tried everything, year after year. Finally, I found a nonprescription medication called Percogesic that often helped minimize the pain and shorten the duration... but it was still a major limiting force in my life.

Then I was put on Celexa (generic name: Citalopram) for anxiety and depression, and within a few weeks, my headaches virtually disappeared! And it made a bit of sense that this worked, because Percogesic has an antihistamine in it that's there for its "calmative" effect.

All of which suggests it was just plain tension, all those years. I don't know why no doctor ever diagnosed it... but just in case that's what you're dealing with, I thought I'd mention.

Does not invalidate the study, just because it's an older study. My book was published in '98, so there won't be anything older than that that I can pull as a reference. If you would prefer something more recent, why not search medline?

Wel it seems to have dissipated for now..I will be sure to buy some meds today when I go out in case it happens again. I am not really a headache person, so I don't think its anything serious.

Thanks for all the helpful hints!!
I just ended up taking a tylenol and had some pepsi. It seemed to work
