I think that any product not on the list is safe--I have a few cans of Nutro that are not part of the recall, and I know I feel comfortable using them. Because of the timing of the complaints, they believe that this may be tied to a wheat supplier that they began buying from around that same time. Since the only affected varieties are the kinds with "cuts and gravy" the other pate style foods should be okay since they wouldn't use the same ingredients.

Thanks for the links!! I'm very glad that i quit feeding them one of the store brands on the list years ago (Price Chopper). In fact, the 4 flavors listed were their favorites! I'm going to pass this along to all of my cat friends.

I spent $150 on food at Petsmart late yesterday and they had nothing posted in the store about this.

I got onto the site but the Nutro CC details are on a Exel spreadsheet and I don't have that program.

Help please...
would someone copy it and paste it in this thread.

This is just nuts.

What kind are they? Do they have gravy? If so, I might hold off for a while and feed something else just to see if the recall expands. If the cause really is the wheat from this new company, then products outside that date range won't be affected.

I am trying to call the recall company but their line is always busy at 5:45AM west coast.

I just can't believe this mess.

I found the Nutro page with more details......
http://www.nutroproducts.com/menufoods.asp

My kitties have been eating the recalled food.
They just had some last night.

I think that I am going to have kidney values done on both of them at their vets just to be safe.

Not sure if any of this is exported to the UK but I do know we get Gourmet cat food over here. I don't buy it for my cats as it's too expensive. At the moment mine get Whiskas cans and Lucy gets Whiskas pouches and a tin of Hi-Life which is pure meat, usually chicken or tuna. She loves it and I mix her medicine in it which is very easy to do as it is very moist.

Usually our cats, except Lucy get ASDA Wal-Mart's own brand but in the last couple of weeks they've gone off it and have been leaving it, turning their noses up. Our cats do that from time to time so we usually end up switching brands - till they get fed up with that too, so I'm not sure if there would be a link or not. I do know that European standards are different to that in the USA so whether the make-up of the food is different here I don't know. Very worrying for everyone across the Pond though

I wonder what is causing the problems? Is there any word on that yet?

Perhaps a check-up at the vet would put your mind at rest?

Do you know if this is affecting pets with compromised immune systems only or is it happening to young, healthy animals too?

I intend to call Dexter & Sadie's vet this morning to get Kidney function tests.

I don't know what the problem is but I do know that it is both cat and dog food that has been recalled.

We have two male cats that we adopted from the same litter. They are only two years old and have been fed the Nutro pouches (Turkey and Liver with gravy) since we got them. Two weeks ago, they both became very sick and spent a week in the ICU at a great animal hospital in the Chicagoland area. Our vet said it was acute kidney failure brought on by a toxin. We have spent the last two weeks desparately searching for the cause... even hiring an industrial hygenist to test various things in our house. No luck until our vet called us with last night's news. BE VERY CAUTIOUS... we have talked directly with Nutro and they do not know for sure what is causing these issues in their food. They also don't appear to be confident in the dates and codes of the affected pouches.
We have over 75 pouches that appear to be outside the affected range but we plan to keep them to have some tested. We have no idea how long it took for the affected pouches to do their damage to our cats. If you feed your cats these products, I suggest you stop and keep all leftover bags in case your cats do get sick. Our boys are still fighting to recover while we treat them at home. However, we have incurred some extremely large bills thus far and these companies need to be held accountable. We will be seeking legal advice today. If anyone else on this forum has experienced anything similar, please post.

I don't think it's Trader Joe's, not 100% sure thought.

I know how you feel Lei. Almost all my canned food is affected. The only thing I've got left is a few cans of Pro Plan. I'm going to have to buy Fancy Feast to get the kits by until I can get to the pet store...which could be weeks from now.
