I called my sis and a friend who has cats to tell them about this-they hadn't heard about the recall so make such you tell all your friends and family that have cats. I don't feed them that wet thank goodness.

I am tooo... but as we saw with the diamond recall things can happen evan with good manfacturing practices... I will be asking why the canned food is made at a different plant not owned by the company...

here are the few foods without wheat gluten with some type of gravey

meow mix
sheba in the tubs
wysongs au jus ( not complete)
merricks
solid gold ( not real gravy but some)
Evos 95% meat ( not complete)

I think in any business, pet foods included, it only gets a curtin amount of money, right? ,so they have two choices either spend in on food quality or advertizing. Some busniesses like those who feature their products on www.Naturapet.com spend the money were it belongs, in the food.http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/ima...iggthumpup.gif

Others like the Friskies business or the Iams business or the Fancy feast business, spend money on advertizing, well thery food is crap.http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/ima...lies/frown.gif Its sick but thats the way it is, you as a pet owner have to read labels and experement different foods to find the right one for your suitation.

Am I understanding correctly that Petsmart has pulled pretty much all the Nutro? All of the Nat. Choice and Max is marked price "$null" (out of stock) on the Petsmart website. I do see that the small MAX Gourmet Classic Cans are not on any of the recall lists, but they do contain wheat gluten, so I guess they've been pulled as a precaution, even though they were produced at a different plant?? Did I get that right??

That's too bad, as we've been *trying* to transition to wet only...and those little cans are what I feed my "holdouts" who won't eat the other food at reg. mealtimes with everyone else.
I guess I'll get them some Meow Mix. *gulp*

I offered a regular favorite...Natural Choice Chicken & Turkey Platter (5.5oz cans) to FOURTEEN cats yesterday morning and it was barely touched. My inside guys didn't want it, so I took it outside and the strays wouldn't eat it either.
I'm sure it's nothing, as that one is RICE gluten, but it was ODD.

Panther, are you a spokesperson for Natura or just a realllllllllllllllllllly satisified customer?

I never thought I'd say something like this, but THANK GOD I FEED MY TWO MEOW MIX WET!!!

My heart is going out to all of you who are in such fear for your furbabies. I'm worried sick right along with you.

MAJOR vibes out to all of you that all your furbabies either ARE ok or WILL be ok!

I also posted this in the recall thread in the Health & Nutrition section, but wanted to repeat it here:

Well, I've fed my cat 1 pouch of 3-4 of the ones on the list...But haven't had any of the symptoms (i.e. vomiting, loss of appetite, lethergy, etc), so I guess all is ok... I did have 1 unopened pouch of nutro weight management left, which is now in the trash.

I hope they haven't pulled the regular cans...as the nutro and authority cans are what the cat likes and mainly what I've been feeding him.

I just hope that this is an isolated incicdent with just the one supplier of the wheat glutin. At any rate, Toby didn't seem to care for any of the "cuts in gravy" pouches so I wasn't planning on getting any more in the future, now I definately won't.

Am I right that none of the Natural choice pouches has actually been reported as making cats sick? I just bought 24 pouches of the kitten ocean fish that are dated during the recall and have been starting to feed them more wet than dry

O-H-I-O!
My aunt just found out her 7 month old kittens died from kidney failure and she was feeding them Special kitty. They didn't know what killed them at first.

I shouldn't say this as I don't want you guys to judge her but she also thougth she killed Moses accidently because he somehow got into the dryer and she didn't know and turned it on. The vet told her the reason he was in the dryer is because kidney failure makes them cold and the dryer was a warm place to be. She is in depression right now because she fears she killed her kittens by feeding them this food and by not paying attention that Moses was in the dryer. Her DIL told her she needs a therapist because of this whole thing. These kittens were her life.
And she feels so guilty.

Sounds to me like a having a talk with your aunt ought to help her a great deal, once you show her this information.

I'm sorry to hear about your aunt's poor kitty. RIP little one.
I fear that perhaps a great deal more animals have passed away from this than the companies are even aware of at this point. I sense class action lawsuit.

In a state of misery w/o my Bella
I had bought the IAMS wet food for Lucia because that's what she was being fed...I will gradually change her over to Innova...and it was the recalled food, but I hadn't given it to her yet...My thoughts and heart go out to these people who have lost their pets because of any of this food...What a tragedy.
Thank you SO much for posting this Betsy...a million

I've never fed my cats meat with peas or whatever veg. I once picked up a sachet to give to Lucy and didn't spot that it had peas and carrots in it until I put it in her dish. She sniffed at it, looked at me, gave me such a look of disgust I felt really guilty then she sat back as if to say "You eat it, coz I'm not!" I had to put it in the bin and give her the other meat sachet.

I wish people would stop trying to interfere with nature. Cats are carnivorous by nature. They are not really omnivores and definitely not vegetarian.

In this country we had a major problem with BSE (Mad Cow Disease) and that was caused by feeding vegetarian animals (cows) on feedstuff made up of the ground down remains of other animals, especially sheep. The disease was only to be found in sheep at one time and is known as Scrapie. The disease then passed to cows (BSE - Bovine Spongiform Encephalitis) and subsequently transmitted to humans with disastrous effects for some people. Scientists reckon that most of us are sitting on a time-bomb as most of us had probably at one time eaten infected meat.

Animals should be fed what they're supposed to eat naturally - and that goes for humans too.

Yikes, I just checked the UPC and I actually have one of the possibly affected pouchs. Fortunately when I tried feeding nutro's turkey and liver formula last month to Gizmo he wouldn't touch it. I still have one pouch left but now the only place it's going is the trash. Better safe than sorry right?

The only wet canned food Scratch will eat is "Seafood Dinner" by no name foods. I always thought PC and no name were pretty much the same thing...

ETA: Can anyone find out if Presidents Choice/no name cat food is made at the same place? Here's what it says on the bottom of a can I have here:
BEST BY JAN 09 10 1649
MADE IN CANADA LSFNC4

Does anyone know if Merrick cat foods have been recalled?
A friend called and told me she thought she'd seen Merrick on a recall list but she doesn't remember where she saw it.

Folks, I just want to be sure all are aware that the list put up on the manufacturer's recall site is NOT complete. If you go to petsmart.com and click on their link, you will see that Nutro Max Gourmet and Nutro Natural Choice and some Science Diet is also included...as you will see if you go to the Nutro company website and the Hills website.

Please also use that list (a pdf file) that is on the Petsmart site.

It is so upsetting, so many folks on my crf list realizing they fed one of the foods, folks on my pet retailers list with losses...it is a horror.
