Now...if only the two governments (Indonesia and Malaysia - more Indonesia than Malaysia, they own the biggest part) would stop people from chopping down trees here (I'm Malaysian) I'd be ecstatic - who knows what else is in there...the cure for cancer maybe?

Before reading the article, my first thought was "its a clouded leopard". IMO unless they do DNA testing of the two types, I would say its the same breed but a color variation. The one would be darker cause of the habitat being darker.

Sorta like the jaguar and the black jaguar or the leopard and black leopard. They are just color variations/mutations - but the same cat.

Ok so I read the other articles - they did verify DNA on the two - interesting.

It's a beautiful feline.
Too bad it's probably going to be extinct soon. (Me being always the optimist

I agree. Sometimes we take more then we need, and we don't think of what's already there and needing what we are taking to survive. I wish they'd come up with alternatives to alot of things, wasted paper especially. I mean you they really need to send out CC applications everyday to one person? I get one from this certain company everyday and have for the last few months even though I've asked to be taken off their list. Right there's how many trees they could've saved??

I just had a thought...and not a good thought at that...

With the color and spots the new leopard species has, it would NOT be unfounded for "breeders" to just go into the jungle (or pay someone to do it), pick a couple up and start breeding a completely new breed of domestic cats.

All I'm asking is...please, leave the cats and their habitat alone. We already have the Bengals and Ocicats - do we really need another spotted or rosetted breed of domesticated wild cats?
