Took Coco into town for a walk with my friend tonight. Lil dog was seen. He stood in the middle of the road as a car came at him like a deer in the headlights. Snagged him after the car swerved around him(thank god!). He has a harness with a rabies tag from my vet. So, I'm thinking maybe I'll bring him home for the night. Well, he followed me & my friend. Went to put Coco in the car & he hopped right in. Yup....I think he thinks he's coming home tonight, too! So, I drove around for 25 minutes & didn't see anybody looking for him. Keep in mind my town is pop. 1087 & it's 9-9:30 pm.

So, "Study Dudly" is in Coco's crate & I must say he has got to be the most intact little thing I've ever met! He's been doing things with Macey, Coco, & Damita. So, yeah, he's not getting off leash in my house, lil manly man!
(I will be mentioning the benefits of neutering when I find his owners)

But, here I am feeling guilty that I picked him up. I mean, he would've gone back home, right? What if his family is out there searching for him? He smells like an old lady, so I'm picturing some lil old lady panicked as her baby boy is missing....

Am I a sucker or what?

Nah, not sucker, saintly softie maybe

You did a good thing.
Chances are he was running loose looking for some action, so think of it as preventing at least one unwanted litter

He keeps "getting some action here"!
The chair, the couch, Damita, the dogs, the vacuum hose, his Kong, his treat ball. Sheesh boy! Give it a rest!

I'm sorry, but this is just giving me a laugh.
Growing up, my sister had a cockapoo that was like that, and he was neutered!

I checked, this boy sure ain't neutered! IMO, he's very big for such a lil dog!

There is quite a bit of confusion on my part as to contacting the owners. The phone # doesn't work. There's a same last name & address in the phone book, but I different first name, so I called them. I swear the name on the answering machine was a completely different one yet!
Either way....this little man's name is "Remmy".

Will your vet be able to help? As it's a small town s/he is probably familiar with this little guy. Although by the sounds of it not familiar enough if s/he's not been asked to separate him from his 'family jewels' yet!

I think you did right by picking him up. Like Arlyn said, little big man Remmy probably got out to go get himself some action. Sounds like he's determined!

Have you phoned your vet yet? They'll be able to contact his owner.

I called the vet & that's where I got the name, phone #, etc. I finally got through to the phone # in the phone book. Asked the lady, she recently changed her name.
So, she was missing a dog. I drove Remmy home & as we got closer, he was so excited he couldn't stop wiggling!
She said he bolted out the door last night. I explained that if you neuter him he will likely run less. She looked at me & asked "What's neutering?"
I told her to call the vet, book an appt. & he'll work with her so she can pay off whatever she can. He's only like 8 months old, too.

I wouldn't feel bad about taking him home. If I were his owner I would rather worry all night about him, than to find him dead in the street because he got hit by a car. Good Luck finding his owner. I really hope that your able to convince them to get him neutered too.

an ice cube in Iowa...
"What's neutering?"

Ummm...what is your NAME??? What planet are you from???

Sorry, this sorta floored me.

So glad you helped him find his home, however. You did the right thing. What I'm wondering, is if this owner even bothered looking for him, or attempted to stop him once he did indeed bolt out the door last night. Scary, huh?

At least he was wearing some identification, and that you were able to track the owner down on way or another. That's a plus. Good work!

I'm glad you found his home Natalie. My boyfriend's girlfriend lives in the same town you do, & they recently adopted a puppy from a HS (not sure if its the same one you work at?) but I was thinking it was hers for a minute!

"what's neutering?" Oh good lord!! I'd have a hard time staying polite with someone like that.
You did a great job getting Remmy home though.
