I feed three cats one third a can of wet food morning and night, and a handful of kibble per cat. Lately they have been turning up their nose to the wet, only eat half, it is good quality, and I have had to throw some away before the next meal.
So tonight, no wet food. I know spike is not happy about that because he looves his wet, but he has been guilty of not finishing. They keep looking at me, as if to say, well where's the fresh stuff?, but it won't be out till tomorrow morn. This stuff is too expensive to be throwing away.
Do your cats do this? What do you do?

Hee, my kitties do this too (even our new stray kitty who is severely underweight
).

I don't understand why they don't eat all of the canned food -- I suppose their preference is mainly for dry food, but they like to snack a little on the wet stuff. Either that, or they just like messing with my mind.

I admit that I do put out wet food for them every day, and throw out what they don't eat. I like them to have the option of the wet food, but I agree with you that it does seem like a bit of a waste.

I thought they would be more receptive of the wet food this morning since I didn't give any last night and they are still not chowing down like they used to. Don't think they like it. Is it possible that it could not be as good as the last batch I bought? I usually by a dozen cans or so at a time, and these were just bought last week, maybe they are not as good?

I think (call me crazy) that it may have to do with our weather here Gail. While both of mine will drive you nuts till you give them their wet, they are not gobbling it all down either.... I think they are more interested in what's going on outside....they are fighting for prime spot on the towel rack in my bathroom so they can check out the birds/squirrels/rabbits & yesterday a ground hog was driving them insane.... that they have other important things to do other than eat.
They are social butterflies....and busy bodies....soooo nosy they gotta see what's happening with this wonderful spring we're experiencing..... you can't blame them for that right???

Try cutting them back to say a tablespoon each at meal time. You can refrigerate the rest till dinner, I think it's good in the fridge for a few days....

This is what I do. Stan likes to graze, but Bella is a clean plate girl (and if she eats too fast it all comes up). I just give them about an ounce at a time. She devours it in a second and he takes his time, but I don't throw out a lot. The rest of the can goes in the fridge. We do a few little meals over the 4 hours or so between when I come home and sleepytime...

mine eat it all. I feed it to them almost every day but I try to feed it after they have been napping for a few hours. If not, they will eat dry and be too full for wet.

My cats whine and cry when their food dishes are empty. You would think I starve them and haven't fed them in a week. But when I put food in their dishes they take two bites and then join me in the living room.

They are also addicted to fresh water. They prefer to get water that drips from the faucet in to the bath tub.

Mine only get a tablespoon in the morning for breakfast and another in the evening because they have their kibbles throughout the day so it's not like their starving, but they look forward to their bit wet food

Possibly, the windows are open, the birds and squirrels are eating.
I want them, especially Fang to eat at least 50% wet for urinary tract health reasons. You would think they would prefer wet to dry. It is stinky and gooey.

I will try the science diet tonight, and just do dry in the morning. They're drivin me crazy.
