I left the room for a minute and Noodles ate about 5-6 inches of elastic string!! It was on a little toy with a ball at the end that they aren't allowed to play with unsupervised. Well she found it and I came back in the room to find the string unattached and a few inches missing!

I know that can be dangerous but I don't know what to do!

One time she got ahold of some ribbon and threw it up with food.

Should I try to call a vet ASAP???

Oh no! Well the vet will probably just tell you to watch her for signs of vomiting/lethargy/not eating etc. With these kinds of things you usually give it a few days to see if it will be vomited or pass. But I dont know 5" is quite a bit.

Eeek! I hope she's okay. It might be an idea to call the vet.

You probably already know this, but if you see the string coming out of her bottom, don't try and pull it out -- I think that can cause damage to internal organs.

Oy I called. The vet said to watch her eating/drinking and pottying habits for the next 24-48hrs and to call back if any of them change or if she starts acting lethargic or unusual.

I went ahead and fed the girls their dinner because she always runs right for the bowl. I guess I'm hoping she will throw it back up like she did the time she got the ribbon. (I still don't even know where she found that ribbon that time! I'm a stickler about that stuff!)

Thanks guys! Maybe we can create a 'puke the string' dance or something....

I think I'd prefer she puke it up now, instead of having to wait and watch her rear!

I hope she throws it up too. I think I heard somewhere on here that if she 'passes' it, your not supposed to pull it out, if she has some 'hanging' out, your supposed to cut it as close to her as you can, and let the rest pass naturally.

Seriously though, if I remember right, one of the problems with cats ingesting yarn or string is that their tongue prevents it from coming back up.

Maybe it will just pass....
Did your vet suggest anything to help it pass faster like Laxatone.
Maybe just naturally is best.

I pray that it just passes with no problems.

They didn't suggest anything to help her puke or pass it. Right now Noodles is sitting on the desk next to me in here watching me watch her.

While she is sleeping,

You can feed her a bit of plain canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) or mashed green beans. Both have lots of fiber in them and will help the digestive tract move things along.

Been there, done that on poo watch. So much fun! (NOT!)
