OH, I hate that too. If they could hear me screaming at them every time they do that, wouldn't they be surprised! I would love to get a dump truck full of cigarette butts and dump them in their car. And if anyone has read Sick Puppy, by Carl Hiaasen, you would think twice about throwing anything out of your car.

I walk a lot, and go by places where it looks like someone dumped their whole ashtray out the window, although since they don't use the ashtray, it must just be where they discard their butts every day. People are such PIGS! No, forget that. Don't want to insult the pigs. People are such Slobs!

Anyone remember that commercial with the Native American with a tear going down his cheek when he sees all the garbage people dump along the road?

So if you want to smoke, go ahead, Just keep your butts to yourselves.

(Sorry about the tirade. I've been a little agitated today)

Now that the snow is pretty much gone its disgusting to see the amount of cigarette butts at some intersections. Dump them on your own property-not public property!!!

ugh. our apartment complex is so disgusting from the smokers. there are butts all over the grass. eew!
when my DH used to smoke, he always had an ashtray and disposed of them properly.

and don't even get me started on smoking in the building. we have neighbors who smoke as they walk through the building.
plus we've had maintenance in here at least 3-4 times to work on our heating ducts. we can smell our chain smoking neighbors in here. cancer anyone?
then the maintenance and apartment manager are all smokers, so they don't seem to notice when they are in here. the first time we had them in, it smelled like and old stale hotel room and they tried to say it didn't smell at all.
it's a lot better now, but i'm hoping to move this year.

i don't have a thing against smoking. i think it's fine (quite a few friends are smokers). i just don't want to smell it in my home (when DH smoked, the rules were outside only). and don't think i should have to look at butts on the lawn at the place i pay to live. (same with dog doo, but that's another thread
)

Yup, he pulled me over, gave me a firm talking to, almost wrote me a ticket for littering (at least), but was called off on a more important incident. Learned my lesson right quick there!
Yup, I had half the mind to speed up, reach in my back seat and start tossing the papers I don't need out the window towards him.

I'm sure though that's when I would get pulled over

I'm a polite smoker. I don't smoke around kids or babies as I've seen other smokers do. If I'm outside in public, I walk away from the group and still ask if my smoke is bothering them. When I put out my cigg, I stub it and put the butt in my pocket until I reach a trash can. I smoke in my car. Window partly down so my car doesn't stink to high heaven and I use the ashtray. If I have a non-smoker (my mom) in the car, I won't smoke at all until we get to wherever she needs to go. When she leaves the car, I light up. My Dad, though, is a rude smoker. He'll stand and smoke right beside you, around kids and babies ( to me, that is just so wrong) around Mom. He tosses them out the window going down the road. He's just plain rude. But, let another smoker do those things around him and he goes off. Go figure.

That was the funniest thing I've heard all day..thanks for that

I just imagine you flooring it past him, then scrambling around your car to collect garbage while you are driving to throw out your window..OMG
I love it!

My fiance is too and I used to be but I can't tell you how annoying it is to be walking through campus behind someone smoking. I usually walk a different direction ASAP because they are usually unaware and it is outside so they aren't breaking any rules.

I laugh, because it wasn't that serious, but could have been.
I've done that before... more than once. In fact, I've burned holes in clothes from ash and buts before.

A friend of mine got ticketed because he tossed a but out his window and there was an unmarked cop driving behind him.

I don't get that either. On IU's campus there are signs on all the doors saying that you can't smoke w/in 20 or 30 feet of the entrance yet they put the ash cans RIGHT nest to the door... so what do the smoker do? Disregard the signs and stand around the cans smoking so I have to walk though their clouds to get into the buildings.

I actually quit smoking for five months, and unfortunately, started again when Alley died in December and haven't had any luck putting them down again yet.

I agree, that both smokers AND non-smokers are equally rude. People are rude, and whether or not they smoke has nothing to do with it really. Its just a sad fact of life.

However, I do try not to smoke "in anyone's face" and if I'm on the sidewalk and a group of people are nearby, I let them ahead of me, or try not to get too close. I guess I'm guilty of the car window thing too
but I will stop doing that now that I realize what kind of problems it can cause.

Oh yay a lets bash smokers thread.

How about... how annoying it is as a smoker to constantly have people giving you dirty looks or 'coughing' right by you when you're not even standing near them. I had a lady YELL at me here at work because I was maybe 19ft away from the door instead of 20. Screw you, I told her, I didnt really care what she thought, go call the cops if you want, what are you going to do?
If you are rude to me about it I will be rude back. Otherwise, I do NOT smoke right in front of doors or around people. I will walk away. I do not blow smoke in people's faces and I am very conciencous (sp) about smoking around other people but when I am OUTSIDE where I am supposed to be I will not stand for people talking smack about my smoking. It's a shame you cant even smoke OUTSIDE anymore. So there's my rant.

If you want to kill yourself, that's your business; but when your smoke invades my space, that's just plain rude!
I completely agree!!! I'm pretty sensitive to smoke and cannot stand it if someone is smoking right by me!

The thread starter was complaining about people throwing their butts out their car windows. The replies following that seem to be bashing smokers to me.
