I was just about to clean the litter box when I found this thing under their mat. Please tell me it isn't a bug that infects cats???

I don't want to clean the box now. I am totally grossed out. The picture is even worst since it is bigger.

Can't really tell much from the pic since he blends well with whatever it is he's on.
First guess would be silverfish, second guess would be a house centipede, but I think it's a silverfish.

That's my guess, too, silverfish. They tend to live in basements. It won't harm the cats, though.

I agree, looks like a silverfish. They are harmless. Pretty much just eat on things like paper. They always freak me out though!

Here's a great site for you to identify unknown creepies.
LOL and strangely enough, the bug of the month is a silverfish, right there on the front page.
What's That Bug?

I really shouldn't have looked at that site, beetle-phobia strikes again

*shudder*

Definately not a silverfish. No antenna's & the body inches like a worm. GROSS
I can't do the litter. I am waiting another hour for DH to find it and kill it.

Looks like a type of carpet beetle larva. There are a few different kinds so they can be be dark colored, light colored, fuzzy or less fuzzy. The beetles themselves are small and roundish.
Do you need to dust or vacuum?

And it's harmless.

It would be hard to identify a picture of a bug if I took it, cause it would be a smashed bug. That would have been the first thing I thought to do.

I wanted to kill it but then I was concerned for the kitties and wanted to post it.

It's gone now...not sure where it went. I couldn't go back over there & when DH got him it was gone. I had him empty the litter, pass the pain and dust bust the area.

I am thinking it is carpet beetle larva or whatever that bug is we get during the summer. I vaccum there so much & never found anything. The litter pan butts up against the heater door. There are many ways for bugs or birds to get in.

I am still itching.

Maybe it's a baby silverfish that hasn't grown antinae?

I looked on that bug site and it all gave me the creeps. I knew I shouldn't have.....

I would have never left it there alive, I would put it in something and saved it for hubby to see.

But I really probably woulda smashed it first

Possibly a Silverfish? If so they are harmless. If you squish them they turn into dust...literally. I share my apartment with them because I live on the bank of a river.

Another guess would be some kind of larva as others have said...perhaps from a fly?

I think insects/bugs are amazing. Our world would be lost without them. I'm the weird person the people at work call to relocate spiders. The only one that creeps me out are the the common cockroaches. Gotta respect them though - talk about survivors!

yes they are. When my kids were little, we used to go look under rocks and logs to see what cool kind of bugs were there. We held some too. (I was a little squeamish, but didn't want the kids to be afraid of them, so I'd grin and bear it)
