Recently, I ran out of wet cat food at a time when I just couldn't get to the feed store so I scoured the shelves in the grocery store and discovered that Meow Mix Market Select didn't look too bad, all things considered, and would do in a pinch. Needless to say, now Chloe LOVES it and turns her nose up at the premium stuff that she used to wolf down.

So, all you nutrition experts out there, how good/bad is Meow Mix? It's a little cheaper and a lot more convienent that the premium food I've been getting (the local feed store has very limited, somewhat erratic hours) and I'd be happy to continue using it if it's decent food. Or would it be better to pitch it and tell her, "Sorry, but it's the premium stuff or it's nothing"?

It's all got fish in it, which is better for females than for males.

My Ginger won't eat anything except the Meow Mix wet - so I make darn sure to feed my kits a high quality dry to balance it out.

It doesn't have by-products, which is good compared to many other supermarket foods. For males or anyone with urinary issues, I wouldn't make it too large a part of the diet (I wrote the company a while back about the magnesium content, and got a somewhat vague answer). I do feed it as an occasional meal for my Wally.

It is in the decent catogory which means I will use it ... I think the sheba s in the tub are a bit better since it has a few flavors without fish

I seen that sheba at the store, and I wanted to try it out but with 6 cat $1 for a can each is a little high
but we do usually get the meow mix, but our kitties are so picky any more

my cats are the same way, the little beasties! once they got a taste of it they wouldn't eat the Cali Nat, wellness, Innova, or any other premiums
but they really only get about a 1/2 pouch each per day, and like Gingersmom said, I feed a good quality dry to balance it out

Same thing with me! My boys were eating the Trader Joes brands, but when Freckles got ill I switched. It was just easier to make one stop at the grocery store or Wal-Mart. I had a few cans of Trader Joes left but Bob and Bickford wouldn't touch it. They don't like the beef flavor, however.
