Not drinking much, but then he doesn't tend to normally, I feed mostly wet and add water to it to make sure he gets plenty.

Vet visit today at 6.20 -it can't come soon enough as far as I'm concerned, I really want to get him back in and see what he says.

ETA: A few minutes later and he's racing round again and the thing I have feared finally happened - he raced along the top of the bookcases, slipped, and fell off
he landed on his feet among a shower of books and took off for another circuit around the room. I am going to stop posting his every move, I am sorry about this, it's difficult being here by myself and no-one to help me assess his state - although he looks fine right now. Oh lord, he's chucking DVDs off the shelves now

Once again thank you all for your wonderful support, it really is soothing to know that people are rooting for my boy to get better

I swear I am going to work now and this will be my final update for now unless I have anything major to report, I have just scooped his box and found that he has pooed a LOT overnight, most of it quite hard but the most recent a little soft and very pungent, and ALL of it absolutely stuffed full of fur. Looks like my poor baby is as furry inside as he is out at the moment. I really hope it is that causing the problem, as it is something that can be fixed
Hopefully he will go again today so I have a fresh sample to take to the vet with me (should ensure I get a seat on the bus if it's anything like his last offering
)

If it is hairballs, what should I be doing to prevent it happening again? Get a zoom groom obviously, I have heard that you can give them vaseline, is that a good idea? I feel quite guilty if it is that, I am sure that with more cat knowledge I could have prevented it

Sending prayers that it is something simple like a hairball.
When you go back to the Vet, ask what to do to prevent them...if that is what it is.I've heard a few different suggestions, so I'd ask your Vet.
Good luck.

Epona, hairballs are NOT your fault. They happen all the time, it's just a matter of them processing them that cause the problems sometimes. A bit of plain petroleum jelly (no additives) on the front paws so they can lick it does help, and there are lots of foods and treats for the problem. Doesn't mean you failed him in any way at all.

Sounds like he is at least feeling better, even if he is gagging a bit. Maybe he's getting it out of his system slowly.

and
for you all.

Just discovered this thread so sending get well vibes to Radar
It sounds like he's on the mend so fingers crossed he continues to improve and stops worrying his mum and dad so much! The gagging thing does sound a bit like hairballs. Jaffa sometimes does that and Mosi coughs when he has a hairball.

Sending along some prayers and vibes that Radar is feeling better today.

The furball treats that I give my cats weekly seem to work well. Every friday they get 6 treats each per the instructions on the bag. They love it!

Catching up on this post-I hope Radar's vet visit goes well. He sounds like he is taking advantage and getting in lots of trouble.
I have one cat that has a problem with hairballs/upset tummy/vomiting etc....and this is the time of year it can act up again-I have to get in a brushing routine plus I do the dab of vaseline on her nose.
Sending vibes that the appt goes well.

Wow, poor Radar! I hope it's just hairballs - that would be a relief! My cats are on a dry food that is a "hairball" formula, even though there is only one that has an active issue with them. I also got some gel to put on their food, but they're all so picky they won't eat it!

Vibes that Radar gets better and better!!

Brushing them does help a lot, but i wouldn't use vaseline because doesn't it have petroleum in it?.

I give my two Purina One furball control kibbles, and i've also got a tube of Laxitone which i got from the vet for when they shed badly in the summer. It's a brown paste and i smear a bit on their front paws to lick off because they won't take it any other way, but make sure you rub it in well or you'll have brown spots on your wall when they shake their paws trying to get it off

When necessary...
I use Laxatone too and yes, I have the inevitable brown blops on my walls.

I am glad that Radar is going back to be checked.
I know that you are very worried about your sweet boy.
Hopefully whatever is causing his gaging will be discovered and addressed today.

Lots of healthy Radar vibes are on the way.

Some cats actually like the taste of Laxitone. I used to have to give it to my Rainbow Bridge Boy Snoopy, because he got furballs a lot. It's what the vets recommend when they have hairballs. All I had to do was squeeze a bit out of the tube, and Snoopy would eat it.

Fish didn't look too good in the end but the Hills tastes lovely...

Might even let Radar eat some
I hope it helps your digestive system, too.

Lots of pets and cuddles to your tornado!

Cable & Java seem to like it ok, so of course they never need it
Pixel & Chip don't like it - they're my furry ones, too!

Just got back from the follow-up appointment.

Vet says that it wasn't hairball related, as even an impacted hairball wouldn't cause a temperature rise of that degree.

But it's good news, the antibiotics and NSAID yesterday have done a great job. His temp is down to 101.5 which is getting towards normal, the vet commented on the huge and very obvious increase in his activity level, his throat inflammation is greatly improved and he can now get out a hoarse miaow rather than just pitiful squeaking, and his abdomen is nowhere near as gassy as it was yesterday.

The vet says that he's 80% better and well on the road to recovery from whatever bug had gotten into his system.
He had the same set of injections again, and antibiotic tablets twice a day for a week starting tomorrow. He is expected to make a full recovery in no time

He also remarked on what a gentle and sweet cat Radar is
