This may sound very strange, but last night I came to the conclusion that Evie HATES garlic. I may be wrong, but this is after a lot of observation and piecing together clues over the months that I've had her.

This is what happens: Whenever I'm eating, she likes to come see what I have. I don't let her eat it, but I let her smell it. Sometimes, when she came to smell the food, she'd only get so close, then she'd scold me "Mra!!", jump away, and run. First I thought she was being just a silly kitty... Now, though, I've noticed that she almost always does it when I have garlicy food. I *love* garlic, so this is quite often.

It took me so long to come to this conclusion, because it happens with all sorts of food- pasta, meat, potatoes... I only just thought last night "maybe it's the garlic??" So I probably need to watch her some more and "test" her...

What do you all think? Is it possible she can hate something like garlic?? Maybe she's part vampire!

Garlic is toxic to cats so she may have that reaction because she knows it isn't good for her.

Really?? Wow, that's kind of scary to think that I eat it and didn't even know it was toxic... Should I not eat it? Should I not let her close to it?? How toxic is it? I guess I can look this up online, which I will do! It's just scary I never knew that... I'm a bad meowmy!!

Thank you for your input! I guess Evie is just smarter than I am!

I doubt the cat knows exactly that bad smell = toxic, after all that doesn't stop some cats.

If you've ever cut up a lot of raw garlic cloves you'll notice the smell is rather pungent to us, cats noses are better. Well, most cats' noses are better.
The next time you cut up a raw onion let your kitty have a sniff, sounds mean but I'm sure your cat will back up fast with a horrible look on it's face (kind of like my DH does
) citrus fruit can be another repelling smell to cats too.

Now if anyone could explain why cats like the smell of stinky shoes and feet...

Willow hates mint toothpaste. If I offer it to her, she looks at my like I just hit her, giving me an expression of loathing and contempt. I too want to know the answer to the shoe question. My cats don't bother with my shoes, but my mom's cat likes to stick her head in them, and my boyfriend's male cats will fight over my shoes and attack them. They do the same thing with my pants, socks and ankles.

Thank you all for your input! I'm really glad to know that it's toxic- that alone made this post worthwhile!

It's funny, 'cause I don't use raw garlic, or that much, and I never thought it was that strong, but maybe Evie is like my boyfriend and just doesn't like even a little!

In short, thank you all!
