been a 3-4 day girl ever since it all started - by the way since we are on this subject & related items

anyone know about menopause - my question

if you start your periods late (age 16) does that mean you´ll go on longer or finish younger

pls say 'younger'

oh BTW, there was a pyschological reason why it was 16 - my father died when I was 12 and my doctor said it was a stress/trauma related response

My mom noticed those she knew who started young, like herself, went through menopause earlier. Not sure if it is a medical fact or not.

I started at 11, but I have no family history to go by.
My mother and her sisters and my grandmother all had hysterectomies in their 30s.

I'm 1 year and 6 months away from leaving my 30s behind, with all my bits intact (knock on wood), but I've also never been pregnant.

I can hope for early menopause.

Okay, so everyone is being super open and honest here. Are you the same in real life? I'd rather poke my eyes out with a red-hot... um poker, than get into these discussions in real life (particularly if there might be any men wandering close by). Of course I was taught to be consumed with shame over my femininity...

I have really bad Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (found that out thanks to a recent ultrasound
). I also have Gastroparesis, IBS and several other GI issues- they can make my periods a total nigtmare. I've had cramping soooo bad before i've had to go to the ER. Now i take Yaz (BC) to help with the cramping and i also have a prescription i take once a month for as long as i need that is a muscle relaxer for the cramping- that seems to help. When i first started before i was on anything BC wise for cramping, mine would last around 5-6 days. Now they last only 2-3 at the most. (I'm 21 for reference)

I have no shame when it comes to these issues. When I first started my period my Mom baked me a red velvet cake and had a party with red balloons to celebrate me becoming a woman.

The only reason I started the thread is because she's four hours behind me, and I couldn't call and ask her right when I woke up!

I have no shame either.
Guys know we have this monthly visitor and relationships in general (at least for younger people) would be so much better if more people were as open about it.
It's a natural bodily function like gas or BO

Most of my friends offline are guys, it's always been that way, I've never had a problem talking about it, they've never had a problem listening.
Of course, those convos went both ways, I've heard extensive things on male only issues as well

I used to be like that when i was younger. Perhaps because i started so young at 11 (I don't think that's considered young anymore, but it was in the 80s). Now I've had it for almost 25 years, which is hard to believe. Same goes for most of my friends and female co-workers. So, now it is just a part of normal life and normal things to complain about or to excuse yourself for being in a bad mood, having a 'fat' day, using the fascilities more often, popping Advil.

In regards to the first post, I have noticed that it has gotten shorter. Also, when I was about 29 I started having more PMS issues like a swollen chest about 10 days before. BF doesn't mind if I go up a size, however it is a bit tender especially when a cat decides to walk over me when I'm laying on the couch.

If anyone wants to appreciate normal PMS, try using an IUD for a year. I tried it as an alternative to taking the pill (which gave me migraines) and it was a killer. The cramps were so bad I almost had to take days off work. I kept waiting every month for the pain to let up like they say it's supposed to. It never did. When I had it removed, i didn't have to take advil for a few months as the pain of normal cramps felt like feathers in comparison.

That's good to know... I was looking into getting an IUD and now I'm not!

Here... or There... Hmmm
I started mine at 9 and have no living female members to know when menopause will start in our family but I'm skipping my 40's anyways so I'll be starting it either much earlier or much later than I should!
I've always been about a 3-4 day gal, no cramps, no pain.. They've been real easy for me which is fine for me. Now back aches from big things is another story! I didn't luck out on that end of the stick! Ahh... you can't win em all right?

Men, they can only think of one thing. I mean we will tell them when the time is right. They act like we have control over the whole thing and can speed it up when ever we feel like it. For most men one cramp and they would die

I to have period panties. They are the ones I don't like or fit weird. No big deal if they get ruined. I also have "granny panties" that I sleep in during that time of month.

I think if you've had a child your uterus is a little bigger and they are a lot easier to take. Though my doctor said some women who had never had a baby found them a great form of birth control. So, it could just be me.

After that I used something called the Nuva Ring which is a flexible ring that you insert yourself and leave in for three weeks of the month, kind-of like a tampon. It secretes hormones much like the pill but is less intrusive on your whole body as it's not a pill that you're ingesting.

Personally, I thought it was excellent. I had no side effects at all, like I did with the pill. It was super easy to put in and take out. I couldn't feel it at all. I was on it for about 18 months and had to go off when I turned 35 recently, as I haven't commited to quit smoking. I'll quit soon, and can go back on it.
