I can say from experience, it doesn't work well. Everytime I read I end up with a cat or 2 laying across the book. I can't read the print through them. Then I tell whomever "You are a cat. Not a bookmarker. See this? (hold up scrap of paper) This is a bookmarker. You (point with said paper) are a cat" And what happens? My "bookmarker" slaps the crap out of my scrap of paper. Or, in Chinas case, she steals the paper and slobbers on it. Of course what I truly love is when it's a library book (an expensive one to boot) and Jake decides that's the best thing to sharpen his claws on....while he's draped across the book. And Isis loves to chew on the corners of hardbacked book.

So, cats as bookmarkers, does not work.

You must be confused. Cat's are good "bookwarmers", not "bookmarkers". If you ever need your page heated up because you've gotten drousy reading and want to rest your head down, then call your local "bookwarmer".

Wishing I were anywhere but here
Duchess...bless her heart...
would always lay across my study books when I would put them down to go do something else. She was always telling me to stop studying so much and spend time with her.

I love doing crossword puzzles. Unfortunately Bijou's large body hides most of the clues so I'm unable to complete the puzzle until he decides to take a break and chase Mika.

He not only lays on the puzzle but insists upon resting his head on my arm making it impossible to write anyway.

Aww, I would way rather snuggle with Duchess than read a book!

The last book I read had a built in bookmark - one of those dangly ribbon ones. Gee, do you think the cats were interested in that?

I love our little hamper's, see cat rules, Tavia loves laying across my newspaper while I am trying to read it and then she smacks at the paper. And then when she is tired of that she decides to roll around on it and knock it to the floor.

I was crackin' up reading this... I can just picture your bookmarker fighting the competition.

Evie likes to "read" with me. She'll lay right in the way and STARE at the book, like she really cares what it says... When I try to mover her, 'cause, like you, for some "odd" reason I can't read through the kitty, she comes right back! Then she likes to swat at the words on the page... Maybe she doesn't like what they say?

When I do crosswords or suduko, mine aren't as interested in the book as they are the pencil..They think everytime I am writing with it, that I am doing it for their pleasure.

LOL! stimpy is not a bookmarker. he's a book blocker.
he actually lays or sits on what i'm reading.
it never fails. he also has book radar, and materializes from nowhere when i get out a book. he'd rather me pet him and pay attention to him, than read.

Whenever I have to work from home, both cats locate themselves in various piles of my work. Either in my briefcase, in the file, on the stack of documents from the file, etc etc etc.

It takes so much longer to get work done at home with them!!

Manytoes is another of the aforementioned crossword clue blockers. EVRY TIME i get out any puzzle book, hes right there. I think he likes the feel of the pseudo-newsprint type papeR?

Yup, the boys love to loll all over the book when I am reading, and they particularly love playing with my book markers! They like the kind with tassels on them (not that the tassels last long once they get at them
). They also love to read the newspaper, which can be a challenge for DH and I at times.

Well, Sophie has no interest in literature. She does love to sleep on my laptop when I am trying to work - that presents a problem. I keep removing her and then she lays down next to it, and then there is a little black paw, then a paw with a leg, a shoulder, a chin --ooops, she just shut off the computer!
Mollie loves to read and also, especially likes to stand on my leg while I am seated, watching tv. The prefered position is facing the TV (she likes the nature channel) with her tail in the air, and her little kittie butt in my face.
Funny, but I am not thrilled with the view!
Both girls like to shred the newspaper into many pieces and then sleep in the shredded pile of papers!

I don't even try to read the paper anymore. Last time I did, Worm ripped through it and poped out at me. Another time Jake just flopped on it and torn the paper is half while he rolled his big butt around, purring. Apperently, Mom isn't supposed to read, watch TV or use the computer. All Mom is supposed to do is cater to the Kings and Queens of the house.
