I came across a guy with a ton of cats (maybe 25), living in a filthy little apartment, no litterboxes, cats coming and going... I took about 15 of them, some rehomed, some went to rescue. He had a pregnant calico he wouldn't let me take as well as maybe 5 hanging around (I was out of carriers and cages, some had threee cats in them!) that are not spayed or neutered. The pregnant calico just had babies 3 days ago. He expects me to take the kittens when they are old enough. I am planning to either take the mother and the kittens asap or else only agree to take the kittens if he will pay for the mother to be spayed. This is no place for animals or kids for that matter. But he will just find more if I take them all away.

So today he asked me if I can take a pregnant female who is 6 weeks along. Still early enough to spay/abort thank god. I don't know if he has any clue about spay/abort but I sure as hell am not telling him. I am now searching for some real cheap spaying and neutering. I mean, someplace running a spring special or something... The regular low cost vet costs $40 for females which is great, but I can't afford it at the moment. I am also going to find out if there is a place to call to qualify for free spay/neuter for low income for this guy and for me too if I can qualify. I believe there is since I live in Portage County. I am even having my boyfriend call and find out if he can qualify for any because we also have a female feral-ish kitten here I want to get spayed too.

RRGG! I just had to share this craziness with you guys who can understand my frusteration. I wish I just had some extra money to get them all done myself. I tell ya, if I won the lottery, I would totally spend it on helping people alter their pets as well as catch every stray or any cat I found and alter it... This is just out of hand. They are basically friendly cats. There are just a lot of them.

Bless you for taking on these responsibilities. As with so many of the world's ills, the only real cure is education, and education takes time. Maybe within our lifetimes, we'll see the kind of widespread awareness it will take to keep these heartbreaking situations from happening. Hang in there...

aw jen, i hope you do find a low cost one , i think the lowest if on benfits here is as little as £5.00 , without benfits its £23.00 if your on a low wage , other wise your looking over £60.00 depending on the vet.
at least you have got a lot of them from him, and there finding new homes. im still having so much trouble finding a home for 1 i took from a lady 8 weeks ago , or is it longer? i forget. but the rescues wont take him and no one wants an only cat with problems.

Jen you appear to live near me and I know some pretty decent PA foster services who offer help for this, are there any by you in OH? Just a thought that you may want to try calling a foster/rescue for some help.

Bless you for having such a big heart towards those kitties.

I can't offer any helpful ideas, but I just wanted to say that what you're doing is amazing. Fifteen cats! That's terrific. I can't even imagine how much work that must be.

I have taken a bunch of cats to Tiger Ranch right near Pittsburgh, PA. But I work with a few rescues around here and they are all full. I could do curtasy listings but those cost money. I just post on petfinder and craigslist quite often and put up fliers too.

If the man is an elderly gentle man maybe the local ASPCA can help and if you are able to provide the transportation maybe they will fix the animals. Also I know here I live in a tiny community the vet will do a few free spays a year and for the elderly. Try calling the vets around you and tell them the story they might be able to help.
