Snowball is a very healthy 11 year old cat but a week or two ago I found a small bump on Snowball's back near his spine.

1. It looks harmless, it's extremely small and perfectly round.
2. It's the same color as the rest of his skin.
3. There's no indication of any discomfort whatsoever.
4. There has been absolutely no change in appearance.
5. There has been absolutely no growth.

My question is do cats sometimes develop harmless little bumps as they age or is this something that a vet should check ASAP?

It's quite common in cats as the age to get bumps big and small on them as they age. There can be several kinds of these bumps such as a benign or malignat tumors or cysts.

Given Snowball's age I would have it checked out by the vet just to be on the safe side. If it turns out to be nothing you can rest a little easier but if the vet recommends removing it then you have the advantage of catching this while it's small.

I have also found bumps on both of my older kitties - one is 10 and the other is 8. I had them both checked out just to make sure they were nothing to worry about. Both were aspirated - one was full of cheesy stuff and the other one was full of pus. The cheesy one was in the skin and harmless but the other one gave my vet a worry and told me if it didn't go away in a couple of weeks, they'd remove it and biopsy it. It worried her initially because it wasn't freemoving - it seemed attached to his abdomen. Luckily, it went away. I'd sure have your baby's bump checked out just in case.
