Hi all

just wanted to get some advice on Heidi. Well firstly she sleeps all day and no matter if i try and keep her awake by playing she has her little hide outs and manages to get away and thats her for the day.

she wakes at night around 6/7pm and starts her mad frenzy. she runs about the flat and plays with her toys she plays alot with us too which is good as it means she is settling with us, but tonight i put my hand out for her to come to me and she pounced on it, wrapped her front paws around my hand and tried to chew it, teeth and claws out. she has never done this before.

last night i said goodnight to her and she jumped up on the bed and pawed my head i was in stitches with her as she was wanting me to play with her it was a good feeling that she is trusting us now.

but with what she did tonight i was just wanting to make sure that she IS only playing as it was a little sore when she scratched and bit me.

thanks for listening to me rant on.

Just had a thought .............. could her behaviour be caused by her being in heat???? she is 6 months old.

thankfully she lives in a 3rd floor flat with a intercom door downstairs so she cant get out unless someone opens the bottom door and there are no other cats in the block.

Sounds like aggressive play. How old is she? Often younger cats intensify their playing, they test their boundaries out. It's natural for them to play fairly rough with each other, remember they have that thick fur coat. Usually an "ouch!" or some thing to let her know you don't like that, it hurts, should help her understand the threshold of to much . Maia is a rough player, but I admit I love playing with her and she responds well when I tell her thats enough. I have scratches all over my hands and arms, but its all in fun, till someone looses an eye

That is a definite factor, though she probably hasn't gone full into heat yet, you will know
! The hormonal changes have a huge effect on them, I think much worse then us! PMS, DMS, and menopause combined times 100, its really hard on them, some more then others......

thanks again

My 6 mth old kitten has 2 run around mad, attack, manic times a day, morning & evening. She was hand raised from 3 1/2 weeks, so didn't get any feedback from other cats on what is appropriate play etc. After reading numerous articles on the net & in books I realized she's a normal kitty, & I need to set the boundaries. She wakes me up each morning purring & rubbing up against my face & neck, then when she's had enough she turns wild, bites & scratches.
Most times she gets time out in her carrier. I must say she has improved over the last couple of months. She used to attack our feet & ankles every time we walked through the house.
Do you intend having her spayed? Blossom was done at 5 months. I didn't want to take the chance of her coming on heat. The vet told me they come on heat every couple of weeks until they are mated.
