I have two female cats, they are aged 3 years and a year and a half old. The three year old is the mother to the yunger cat. They normally get along quite well but lately the youngest cat has had some wounds appearing on her neck. The wounds are always around her neck and they bleed alot, the fur is always all gone leaving huge bald, bleeding patches. They heal up and then they happen again! At first i wondered if another cat was doin this..and then i saw that it is my older cat(her mother) doing this to her. She creeps up on her...hisses..attacks her, and bites chunks out of neck!

Im wondering why my cat would do this to my other cat?
How can i make it stop?
Im in the dark here and i really don't want to see my cats hurt each other.

Please help!

Are they both spayed now? If not, that's probably why. While sometimes you can have mom/dad and offspring live together peacefully, many times the parents want the kids "out of the house" and will keep going after them.

You need to separate the two till the younger one's neck heals. Then try a very small amount of Bitter Apple Spray on the back of the neck where the cat cannot wash herself.

Has anything in the house changed? New pet, or another stray cat outside hanging around?

They are both spayed and they both have been spayed for quite awhile. I had the oldest one spayed right after she had babies and was done feeding them, then i had the younger one spayed when she was about 6 mos. old.

The only thing that has changed is that i had a baby 11 months ago.

Do either of them go outside? I think I'd do what I suggeted and separate them for awhile.

And remember, you have to get them attention too - they were both there before your child - sometimes cats/dogs get jealous if you ignore them too much.

Both cats go outside and recieve the same amount of attention from me. I always acknowledge them before the baby sometimes, and make them feel special. My mom on the other hand favours the youngest cat. She kicks the older one out of her room sometimes and allows the other one to be in there.
Could this factor into the situation?

They are seperated right now...i shall keep them seperated until Bean heals.

Absolutely! You can't punish a cat for it's presence. It's easier to take it out on the kitten then your mom.

That could be part of the problem - I would speak to your mom about her actions. I would not allow ANY one in my house to mistreat my pets.

I would say so, we have a mother and 5 grown kittens they are one big happy family. We have always treated them all equally.
