Yes! That is great; it's a good thing to do

I'm still growing my hair for that - it's almost down to my bottom
Cuz I wanna have long hair after it's cut! So I've been growing it for a couple of years, and I'll probably donate it sometime next year. My sister went through chemotherapy when she was little, so she's doing it, also; I think it's great!!

I hope you get a nice cut

Good luck!! Would love to see pics after

They make wigs for people with illnesses such as cancer whose treatments make their hair fall out- they help a lot of children as well. Colin measured my hair for me last night- it's 25 inches long....locks of love needs 10 inches of hair for a donation- so that's how much i'm donating. I let it grow pretty long so that my hair wouldn't be too short after i donate it (i hate short hair on me) so it'll still be at least medium length after it's cut.
Wish me luck! My appointment's at 1
Awsome Thank you so much. I wont get in to detail but just want to say thank you from my family. Lock of love ROCKS. Also there is another place in Ca and michigan I can not recall the names but they ROCK also
U are a very great person with a big heart.

Aw that's cool! My step-brother did that about a year or so now. His hair is gorgeous. Too gorgeous for a guy!
He's puerto rican and has thick dark curls. His hair was really long....it made a huge mop of curls over his head. Olivia used to like to play in his hair and attack it.

LOL! He's pretty cute I guess! Tall and lean. He's a pain in the neck one time and an absolute sweetheart the next.
He just turned 20 so maybe he'll soon leave his 'pain in the neck' days behind....

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Nikki - I do the same thing! It takes about two years to grow my hair out. It grows down to my butt (and it is SUCH a pain in the butt as it gets longer than waist length!) and I get it chopped to the middle of my shoulder blades. Last time I did it was last year, and it was about 16 inches of hair! I waited a little too long that time.....

I'm sure it'll be really cute and feel so fresh and light on your head!

Sounds like my Alex Jr (he's 19)! LOL! He's got beautiful, long, black hair! And tons of it too! He's been keeping it tied back in a pony tail this year. Lots of people think he looks like John Travolta in Pulp Fiction when he wears it that way...others say he ressembles Johnny Depp! Either way...he's my sweetie and I love him to bits & pieces!

Nikki...what an awesome, awesome thing for you to do! You're such a sweet person! Maybe I'll do the same. My hair is pretty long now (been that way for about 12 years now!)...I keep trimming it though. Maybe I'll let it grow out really long cuz I'd love to it to still be long after they cut it.

I have super long hair as well, and I want to chop it off but have it not go to waste.

Thankyou everyone
/ It went very well
My new haircut looks really cute too! I love it! It's soooooooooooo much lighter and easier to manage
I wound up donating about 12 inches (i had plenty of hair to spare) My new haircut falls down a little bit longer than my shoulders and it's layered in the back (the front is just a pinch longer so it frames my face) After my stylist cut off my hair for locks of love he asked how i wanted my new hair cut- I feel aweful (i'm sick) and really didn't care, so i told him- just do whatever you want
I trust him- he's AWESOME!!! And i wound up with a really cute new haircut. I'm happy- some sweet child somewhere is going to have something to cheer them up and bring some normalcy to their hard life, and i got a nice haircut out of it. I'm really glad i was able to help someone out that way just by having a haircut!
My mom and Colin saw the new haircut- both of them like it. I will try to get some pictures later. / As far as the actual process of donating- they wash your hair then measure it. After that they put it in a rubberband and tie it then cut it straight off right above the rubberband. Then they put it in an envelope (so it won't fall apart when you carry it.) and i filled out a locks of love form- if you like, you can remain anonymous. After i was done at the salon, i went to the post office and put the envelope with my hair and the locks of love forum into a bubble envelope (to protect it) and the post office mailed it to locks of love directly from there for a small fee ($2.20) Definitely worth it! If any of you have hair that's long enough and isn't chemically treated- definitely donate it- it will REALLY help out some child out there and bring a smile to their face- it's sooo worth it! Also- for those of you who can not donate your hair because it's color treated or not long enough- definitely consider donating to their organization
It takes money and time to make those great wigs they fix up - here's a link to the site if ya'll want to read up on the info there:

Definitely donate it!
[email protected] has info posted on their site about donating!
You can go to any salon in your area and have them cut it for you to donate
Or i suppose you can print off the form online and cut it yourself at home if you like

I'm sooo glad to hear your family was helped out by this organization. I've never known anyone who directly was helped by locks of love -so that makes it even more special

After looking through the info on their site i ran across this:

5. Hair may be colored or permed, but not bleached or chemically damaged (if unsure, ask your stylisthttp://www.locksoflove.org/donate_hair.php#item1

Thought that might be useful info for those of you who wanted to donate but thought you might not be able to

You ALWAYS have cute hair cuts! What does your hair look like now? Is it still short?
