I'm not sure what you guys have in your necks of the woods for car disposal, but I recently disposed of my car through something called Car Heaven. They gave me a choice as to what charity I wanted to donate the scrap metal, parts etc, to. I chose our municipal animal shelter. They also towed it away with no cost.

Something to consider if you ever have to expose of an old beater.

Movin' on up!
Goodwill and the Salvation Army take old cars and a local organization called Junque For Jesus will, too. Junque For Jesus fixes them up and gives them to people in straitened circumstances, who are trying to help THEMSELVES (single working mothers, people in rehab, ex-cons trying to go straight).

That is so neat. I don't think we have anything like that around here. We do have the Salvation Army and Good Will but I don't think they fix them up or anything.

My poor little car died about a month ago and I donated it to the Kidney Foundation. They take it away for free and also give you a tax receipt for it. It seems like similar programs are run throughout Canada and the States. http://www.kidney.mb.ca/cars.html

I'm not sure what we have in our area. I've never had to dispose of an old car. But that sounds like a nice program.

That was basically what I did. The engine went which would be at least $1000 to replace. It wouldn't even start. Sad. But at least the Humane Society is benefitting from my loss.

Now I'm a public transit girl until I figure out what car to buy. My BF is away on business for two weeks, so I'm lucky enough to have the use of his car for now.
