...with PEOPLE hair dye! It was a younger kitten too. He lightened it from black to golden so there has to be a bleaching agent in it. My other neighbor just told me this. She said that the kid mentioned it first and she said how it can be toxic and really irritate or burn the skin and not to do it, plus if the cat licks it off!! And the fumes are just awful.

What is going to happen to the cat? I KNOW this kid will not take the cat to the vet. I just know it. I am really worried.

I believe that would qualify as as abuse and I'd call animal control.

I totally agree with the above. And depending on the kid's age, you'd think he'd know better. I imagine he'd have to be older if he is dealing with hair dye. And where and the heck are his parents?!?!
If he'd do this, I'm concern about the kittens well being beyond this particular incident.

Oh the poor little thing! I know how uncomfortable that stuff can be on My head, let alone a little kitten. Please let us know what happens.

That poor cat! I agree with calling animal control. Hopefully the cat will be alright from this, but I worry about the kid doing more stupid stuff to it. They are pets, not toys.

Do they even make dye for animals? The place I get my hair cut has a small dog and they've dyed the tail before.

Yes -- that's animal abuse for sure, and the kitten needs to be taken away... if not by Animal Control, then by you, under cover of darkness...

I have dyed Spaz (not on purpose) with vegetable dye, I know that it is harmless and I know that they do make pet safe dyes (also vegetable I believe) for people who dye their white pets (usually poodles) in seasonal colors.

But yeah, in the case of chemical dyes, no doubt, that's abuse.

My neighbor is calling animal control. The humane officer here will not do a thing about it, they are awful. They didn't even care about that cat I posted awhile back that was chained up outside. One day the cat was just gone and no one has seen it since which is awful, poor kitty.

Anyways, all I know about this kid is his first name. I am going to get more info and call to report him too. If I ever see the cat in person, I will take it no question! I think it is an indoor cat though so I don't knwo how that would go about.

I wouldn't take it if you see it outside because that would most likely be considered stealing. Hopefully they will do something though. Do you have any way of talking to the parents?

I should clarify that... I am not going to be stupid about anything. I just mean if the situation arises, I would have no problem taking the cat. If they left and I HAPPENED to be around I might snatch him hehe.

Wouldn't organization like ASPCA help in this matter in extracting the abused kitten from the home? I hope your neighbor do something fast cause who knows what kind of dye it was. Poor kitten
