Ok we know the oci was created from aby and siamese (with a bit of ASH)

In the standard it mentions about a "bonus" if cat has ear tufts - ok if it doesn't.

Charlie does have the little ear tufts
My question is WHERE did the ear tufts come from? Was it the aby or the siamese - I'm guessing aby; however CFA standard for aby and siamese makes NO mention about any ear tufts.

Do the abys have them? Anybody got a few pictures of abys with tufts?

Abys as far as I know don't have ear tufts. BUT, some Abys do carry the LH gene - the lines that created the Somali and of course some Siamese lines also carry the LH genes (Balinese). So logically, somewhere along the way there may have been some cats that have the LH genes in them to get bonus ear tufts!!!

Good question - must research more!

That's kinda what I was thinking in the back of my mind - but no one has ever mentioned getting any longhair oci's! May do a web search on it.

Its just a very tiny bit of tuft - you can see it in some of his pictures if the background is the right color

Mica def has ear tufts. Hopey is right now running around like she is nuts, so I'll check when she gets tired
Pretty sure she has them.

Yes she does have them, but she is also a variant so not sure about "real" Siamese.

Aby's can have ear tufts, here in Europe they are considered desirable. So nice if the cat has them but no fault if they aren't there. Relatively small tufts, don't think Maine Coon lynx tips

GCCF (UK): http://homepage.ntlworld.com/makeits...owStandard.htm
Fife: http://www.fifeweb.org/wp/breeds/std/aby_std.html

These tufts seem to be polygenetic and don't necessarily have anything to do with LH gene, they also occur with Aby's that come from lines without known variants. Even with Somali's who do have the LH gene it isn't always easy to get the tufts, it has really variable expression, our Flynn doesn't really have them but his brother had pretty good eartufts:

The CFA Somali Standard says ear tufts are desirable. Since Somalis are from Abbys I would guess Abbys.
