I agreed to look after a residents dog while they are out running errands. And sugar is the only one right now that is out watching the dog. I think she is the one that will take to the dog first as she is more outgoing than spice. But it is good that they get to know each other, and as time goes on, they will get used to each other. But good time for the experiment though.

I think cats in general are pretty accepting of laid back dogs, I really have never had a problem bringing a cat home, even one that had never seen a dog! That's why I never understoof why rescues won't adopt a cat to a home with a dog, especially if they've never been exposed

Well, I am trying to introduce the cats to the dog I help look after when needed. And I am getting mixed reactions. Sugar, is pretty accepting of the dog. She does not fully trust the dog yet, but has sniffed the dog out a few times with no hissing or swipes. Spice on the other hand, is totally opposite. I have tried to let spice see the dog while still in my arms, where she can remain safe, and all she does is hiss at the dog, and has even taken a couple of swipes at the dog. I am not worried about the dog swiping back, the dog is pretty easy going and has always accepted a cat here. I am more worried about the damage the cats can do to the dog. I guess I have my work cut out for me with spice.
She even hisses at me when she smells the dog on me after I pat the dog. Guess she is not as accepting of others as sugar is. So until the dog leaves, to save a few headaches, spice has been seperated from sugar and the dog.

the dog is a lassipoo. Quite friendly to everyone and every pet. I do look after this dog for the owner when needed, so the sooner all get used to each other the better for all. Not expecting them to all play together, but at least be friendly. Thought it would be a good idea to introduce all to each other though. Spice is not having any of it, yet. Hopefully she will. Guessing it will take a bit of time.

it will take some time, bellas been here since july and well she is just now coming round to the dogs, then again cocoa is very hyper so to speak and well 10 X her size but she let him sniff her yesterday with out growling and if he gets to close then she hits him on the nose, cocoa grew up with cats since he was 8 weeks old so he just thinks every animal is there to play with him and jazz thinks all the cats are there to clean her head like willie does
but on times i catch cocoa and bella laying next to each other
bella is frieds with everyone when no ones around
go figure
but give it some time some cats take right away and some dont, Blue on the other hand came in here took to the dogs right away

i am but for this visit, I think it is better to keep spice away from the dog. Could let her hide under the couch, and let her sniff the dog as she passes?

I am sure they will come around. It seems cats taken longer because of the size.

Good Luck and I hope its sooner rather then later.

I hope so too. The dog's visit is over, and spice is out again, getting used to the new smells from the dog. So we shall see what hte reaction is next time.

well, spice gave me a couple of good scratches only once. But nothing too serious. Now they are enjoying the sunshine outside through the window. They are so cute sitting in the window, watching the goings on.

My ex-husband brought a dog home while we were still together. Oliver, who had never been around a dog before walked right up to him and broke off a nail in his nose.
