Today I went in to find my poor jaundiced kitty lying in the litter box. Curled up there on purpose. Not much response when I talked to her and petted her. It's so awful. Is she saying, "Okay, I'm ready to be disposed of too?"

I've seen her playfully roll around in the litter when it's fresh... maybe like birds clean themselves with sand? But this litter box had been used, and she wasn't being playful about it.

I freaked out and have brought her out to be with the rest of the household. She's curled up in a basket now in much the same way.

Now we've finally got the money to take her to the vet tomorrow, and I'm wondering if I should. I'm afraid she may not make it through the night, after acting like that. Or if I do, they'll do lots of tests just to tell me she should be put to sleep.

Poor kitty! Any advice on what I should think about this?

Is she possibly feverish? I have seen cats do that in the summertime, when it's hot...I figured it the sand felt cool. If she's that hot, maybe she isn't bothered by the soiled litter.

I'm sorry that she's not feeling well. I hope the vet has some answers for you.

I second the fever idea--perhaps you can take her temperature? Normal is between 100 and 102.5, I think. How are her litterbox habits? Is she peeing and pooping normally?

Yes, you definitely should take her to the vet. Has she been eating and drinking? If not, have you been force feeding her?

My cats occasionally take a brief nap in the litter, regardless of whether or not it's clean. I've heard that when cats are a bit stressed or in an unfamiliar space they may spend time in their litter box as it's familiar and comforting to them. So maybe your little one was just feeling ill and chose to lay in a comforting place??

I keep looking for your posts to see how Kitty is doing. Its been several weeks since I had to put KittyGirl down. I am glad to see that your kitty is fighting. You said she gained weight...and was smelling her food. Has she atleast tried to eat on her own? Please keep us informed on how she is doing...hope your vet can finally give you some real answers. Keep thinking about Kitty..hope she gets better soon.

Hi guys, we're taking her to the vet today. Husband wanted to get off work so he could come, too. I'll let you know!

Update: They didn't do any tests, just gave us meds, because of the money issue. About seven different meds, don't remember the names, but will post if anyone's interested. Won't know how it works for a few days.

About the only new news I have is that she's lost about a pound since the e-vet visit. She's down to 4.3 now. This is pretty awful. I thought I'd been feeding her enough to put some meat on her bones. Any suggestions for super high calorie stuff I could add to her food?

Will let you know if there's any updates.

I'd be curious to know which meds. Have you tried Science Diet A/D? It's supposed to be high calorie and palatable. If you're still syringing, I found that Evangers Pheasant food seems to have a nice consistency when mixed with water. You may want to either increase the amount you are feeding or increase the number of feedings. How much do you estimate she's getting each day?

Well... it doesn't matter now. She's gone. She went into a decline, and we decided to put her to sleep. She died on the way to the vet. I know we did everything we could. I'm so sad. Not for me, but for her. I wanted her to have a much happier life. I hope she understood we loved her, and that's why we did all these things to her.

Oh I am so sorry to hear that, and I know that she knew that you loved her.

I am sending hugs and prayers from Mississippi for you.

She is now over at the Bridge and she is not sick anymore.

I'm so sorry. She knows you love her and wanted to help her. Trust me, they always know. Shortly before Spot passed, he told me he was ready. He looked up at me and bit my hand to get my attention. He was at the vet, but they wanted to transfer him to the specialist so they could try to save him. He died on the way to the specialist's office.

She will always be a part of you, and hopefully you can pass along the things you learned from her to others and honor her memory in that way.

I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty. I know you did everything you could, but sometimes, they are just ready to go. She is resting peacefully now across the rainbow bridge and you will see her again someday.

Rest in peace sweet girl.

I'm closing this thread now. When you are ready, post about your lovely kitty at the Rainbow Bridge.
