We have four cats, but 2, George and Addie, are newer additions. They're just recently allowed out with the other 2 cats and our dog, Max. Max has a big crate with his bed in it. We leave the door open all the time. Well, the kittens, particularly Addie, like to go in and lay down in his crate. Since he's seen them do this, one of our older cats, Sammy has been trying it out for himself. We moved them out when we catch them in there.

Max has seen them in his "bed" and doesn't seem to mind. If he wants to lay in there, he'll go in and nose them out. If not, he'll let them be and go about his business.

As I've said, we've been discouraging the cats from doing this because we've felt that the dog should have his own space and we want to minimize conflict....but if the dog isn't reacting negatively, should we bother or should we just let them lay in there?

well I agree with you, its nice that Max has his own space, but if he's chilled about the kits being in there........then well I would probably let them go in but thats only cos I think it sounds cute
and like you said he moves them when he wants to be in there
Maybe as the kittens get older, they wont bother !

Yeah, that is what I was thinking too, if he doesn't care then I would worry with it either.

Puff has done this a few times. When he does this Kota comes and "tells" me about it. But she's never angry about it. That just means Kota gets her spot on the bed.

As long as your dog nicely noses them out when he wants his bed, I think it is fine. That means that both he and the cats realize that it is his bed
. I had a similar problem with our foster kitten, but our dog wouldn't make her leave
(after she got a little bigger, she didn't do it anymore- when she was tiny, we'd let her get in the dog's playpen, and they would play through the holes- the only safe way they could play
-they had a blast
Then the kitten would fall asleep, and Mattie would just sleep on the floor-LOL)
