Anybody else from NYC area notice that the water smells funny in a bad way? I've noticed it the past year off and on, like today its back! Last summer I noticed it at a friends and in Brooklyn, so I know its not my building...Its so strong it turns my stomach, shower, dishes.......hate it!

yuck! maybe you could get a water purifier and drink bottled water- sounds like the water there has some nasty things going on with it- i wouldn't chance it. if it concerns you- perhaps you could contact your local water authorities in your area and ask them about it- perhaps they don't know about the taste comming from the water where you're at? Good luck!

NYC has about the cleanest city water anywhere in the US, however, that's not to say those pipes sitting around from 1950's aren't brimming with the most unimaginable filth. Fluctuations in temperature will cause pipes to expand and contract, and when they do that they let loose some of the foul debris and it runs out of your tap.

NYC water for being so clean doesn't taste very good. Has a lot of chemical residue used to clean it and has an icky after taste.

If it's really rank smelling (like rotting, dead fish, garbage smell), then I would worry about sewage backup in your area (serious health concern), though if it was a sewage backup it would be all over the news.

I have looked online before, nothing....I know others smell it, friends, just not like I do. It smells like a chemical, plastic kinda smell.

Ooooh, did you happen to get new pipes? PVC pipes will give off a nasty chemical smell for a long long time right after they're installed.
