I have a laptop for home and one for work. Definitely prefer laptops! I'm spoiled, though- I have it set up as a super workstation! Wirelessly connected to my printer/scanner, with an external hardrive for all my pictures, videos, etc, and a second, huge flat screen monitor (my home laptop has a large widescreen monitor, anyway!). If I need to focus and work, I just set it on my desk.
I actually have about four desktops here- they're my boyfriend's, he's pretty much your stereotypical computer nerd
- and I almost never use them.

I think I prefer laptops mainly because I can go from cuddling on the couch to cuddling in bed without much trouble! Or at least, EVIE can go from cuddling my laptop on the couch to cuddling it in bed. I just like to get in her way and pretend that she's cuddling with me!

Heck, I do that enough all day!
I'm also going to enjoy taking it with me when I go to Starbucks and Panera's too! I think it was a good investment, I'm pleased.
I'm using a desktop, and it's very comfortable to use a desktop than a laptop in my opinion, but there's no doubt laptop is great for travels etc

I have a laptop... I've had a laptop for the past 9 years of my life now and I even have one for work. I could not be restricted to a desk, I love lying on the couch and chatting with my friends...

I have a laptop at home, but a desktop at work. Biggest adjustment is the keypads - since I can't type at all, when I am on my laptop, my typing is especially bad- pads are closer and smaller.

We thought about getting a laptop but found you could get so much more of everything (memory, etc) with a desktop for the same price.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I've enjoyed reading them. I do enjoy having both, I wanted the laptop mainly for convenience and for when I'm working, instead of just sitting in the house all the time I can take it out somewhere. I just bought it so I'm still getting used to it, the print seems to be smaller than what I'm used to and some pages look different, the coloring etc..but I do really like it.
I'll still be using my desktop too, especially when I'm eating or drinking my coffee then I would prefer to be on the desktop.

How about a compromise. The best of both worlds. I've got a laptop and I have a 17 inch monitor, keyboard, and mouse.....and a docking station!
That way when you want to sit and type on a normal keyboard and look at a normal size screen you just dock the laptop. When you want to take it on the go - couch, outside, etc, just undock it and use the laptop alone. It's great and I love mine. I couldn't operate on just a laptop, but the docking station gives the best of both worlds. You might want to look into one for your laptop. Bet you'll love it!

I've been thinking of getting a docking station for my new laptop.. the only thing is, I have a laptop cooling pad that I like to use underneath mine.. I was told by my techie friends that keeping your laptop cool from day one is a great way to improve the longevity of it. my last computer started overheating all the time, and in the end, couldn't run without a fan blowing directly at it
the thing is, I don't know how I'd use a cooling pad with a docking station. since you have one, do you think that there is a way to do it somehow? it's the one thing that keeps me from buying a docking station - the thought that I wouldn't be able to use the cooling pad anymore..

Here... or There... Hmmm
I use both. At work it's desktop all the time as there's no laptop here other than the owners and she'll use that only once in a while. At home I use the laptop mostly in the bedroom, DH uses both on a regular basis, but I HAVE to have my desktop to do a lot of things that are just really annoying to try to do on the laptop. So I love both equally and use both equally!

I have both, but primarily use my laptop. I like that it doesn't take up much room, but has a wide screen.

Sorry - I don't know anything about cooling pads. Never heard of them actually. You could probably find out that information from any computer sales store. They should be able to tell you. If the cooling pad is small (i.e. thin), then it would probably work. Most docking stations have a good 5 inch clearance between the bottom and top or don't have a top or bottom at all - just the plug in portion that goes in the back. My laptop sits at a slight angle and has clearance on both the bottom and the top. It also will depend on where your docking slot is. My old computer had it in the back, this new one the docking slot is on the bottom of the computer (towards the back, but on the bottom none the less).
It's really probably going to depend on 3 things:
1) Where your docking slot is on the computer
2) the style of docking station you go with
3) the size, thickness of the cooling pad.
