Just came across this site today and it looks like it's filled with lots of info and a few nuts to boot!

My wife and I recently lost a member of our feline family and it's nice to know that this site exists. We also have two other cats that amuse us to no end. We all make our home in Gainesville, Florida as do our two grown daughters ( the eldest and her husband are expecting their first son, and our first grandson, in June ) who are also animal lovers. Between them they have four dogs, two cats, a sugar glider and a good sized lizard. Quite a menagerie, eh?

Again, this seems like a great place!

Hi & welcome to TCS!
That is quite a menagerie! Of course you are now required to start a thread in Fur Pictures...even if all of them are not furry!

If you have any questions as you find your way around the site, please feel free to click on my username and send me a private message. I'll be happy to help.

Welcome all

to TheCatSite and may I express my deepest condolences to you and your family on your loss of your sweet cat. We know how painful this is, as we have experienced many losses in our large family; and we are glad to know that you are all animal lovers with large companion animal families, which is always comforting.

What is a sugar glider? I have heard them mentioned but do not know what they are. Are they birds? Or reptiles? Or ???

We'd love to see photos of your cats and other family members -- we love photos here! Enjoy the forums and we're glad you found TheCatSite.

Thanks for the kind words, Tg06! A sugar glider is a small marsupial from Australia/New Zealand. They have a sort of web on their sides that opens into a kind of wing that helps them " glide " from tree to tree to escape predators. They are truly nocturnal as well. They are amazingly social with humans and are not difficult pets at all. Their fur is soft and thick and their colors are grey with black markings. My daughters is named " Layla " and loves to spend the day in a little pouch that my daughter wears around her neck. She's pretty demanding of attention though, and being nocturnal, giving her attention can be a chore.

I'm working on the pictures, but it may take a while as I'm a procrastinator!

Wow! Now I know, and I can't wait to see that picture of Layla. She sounds amazingly cute! I've come across several mentions of sugar gliders on the web, and so I guess a lot of people have them as companions. I wonder how well they do, away from their natural environments, though? Seems really bizarre to me that, with so many sweet cats not finding good homes, people are importing and adopting animals of species who aren't really domesticated and don't need to live with people...but that's just me.

Anyway, sure am glad you and yours love cats! and look forward to seeing you on the forums.
