Any idea the record for longest-lived domestic cat? Theres probably a guinness record for that, how about in personal experience? A friends ex-girlfriend had a cat who lived to be 21, thats about the longest I've heard of.

my oldest cat was 17 yrs when she got PTS.....I didn't talk to my mother for months over it.....

The oldest verified by the Guinness book of records lived to be 36, which is absolutely amazing!

The oldest I have known was a lovely brown tabby called Fred, not my cat but a great little lovebug and a real licker, he wandered in from the streets with his ribs poking out when he was already an adult, age unknown, and he went on to enjoy a further 21 years in his new home.

I couldnt find it on guinness records website, but another site mentioned a record of a 36 year old cat!

The oldest on record that is verifiable was 'Puss', a tabby in Devonshire, who died in 1939 aged 36 years and one day! Thats 160 in human years!
A friend of a friend had a cat that lived to 30 I think. Will have to check on that.

36?! Wow, some humans don't even last that long

According to messybeast there was a cat that lived to 43, but that's unverified (so probably not true!)

I know there are cats out there that have lived in mid 20's - think the oldest one was 30 or something like that (in the record book). In a way I'm not sure if I believe it, but those records books do verify before putting them in there.

Spooky is my oldest (15 1/2 yrs). But the other older rex I owned, Tazz, she would be 18 this coming spring. As far as I know (my friend back east has her) she's still around.

wow! 36 is a good old age

36 y/o?? Holy cow!! I have never heard of a cat living that long.

The linky doesnt work

My beloved Tess lived to 22...and the vet seemed unimpressed. Said living to age 25 was becoming much more common in cats.

My best friend's childhood cat was PTS at 23 and he was an outside cat.

We had a kitty when I was growing up named Bootsie. He was an indoor/outdoor cat. He was the runt of the litter of a barn cat, and grew to be 28 pounds. He was the most affectionate, lovey old guy I've ever known. Bootsie was PTS in 1982 at the age of 22 1/2 years. Here's a picture of Bootsie about a year or so before he went to the Rainbow Bridge.

My vet says the same thing, especially with indoor cats.

Our oldest lived to 23, but I understand that Siamese are especially longlived. He was an indoor/outdoor cat, too. I don't recall him ever being sick.

Ox becomes an adult in less than 2 weeks (he will be 18)!!
I still catch him on the counter looking for a tasty morsel and I caught me playing with a cat toy a couple of days ago.

What an unbelievable cat! I can't believe the energy he had for 36y.o.! Wow! My cat when I was younger (who lived out her life with my parents after I moved because she was an indoor/outdoor on their 10 acres and very happy there) lived to be 19 years old. She was a very dignified cat and held her poise until the end, but she was no where near as energetic as this cat in that clip was.

My grandparent's cats lived to be about 19 & 22. I think the 19 year old would have lived longer but after my Grandfather died she kind of lost interest in her life...

My Grandma's secret for having them live so long? A nice spoonful of butter every morning. She swears that it kept them healthy and made their coats nice and shiny. They were the fattest cats I've ever seen (their stomachs dragged on the ground) but were very healthy otherwise.
