Uhhh i am soooo annoyed right now. Every once in a while i'll get a boil. In the past i have had 3 from brown recluse bites that were the worst pain i've ever been in. I just realized a moment ago when Whiskey jumped on my chest that i have them again
I have one on the right side of my chest and one tiny one right under the left side of my chest
Pain!!!!
.) The one on the right side hurts REALLY badly. It's the biggest of the two- the other one is small for now but still hurts. I am sooo upset now because i know what will happen in the next few days- i'm definitely going to be hurting if they get any bigger.
It just so happens that i have a dermatologist appointment on tuesday for my psorasis (totally unrelated) so when i'm there i'll see if he can give me anything (i know you pretty much have to keep a moist heat compress on them until they are better. Uhhh!
Anyone else get boils? I rarely get them- but every once in a while they'll show up- i'm wondering if it's anything i've worn lately- i don't think so because i haven't changed anything.
I seem to get them when i'm stressed out- but still it's frusterating -they're sooo painful

Oh heck ! my brother used to get boils, he had to see skin specialist etc, so I know how much of a nuisance they can be

Do you have anything that you use to try to ease the pain a bit ?

Good luck for the dermatologist appt.

Movin' on up!
Use Benzocaine ointment on them. This can be purchased OTC and is usually found with the hemmorhoid creams. - works wonders for bad itching, too.

I get them on my inner legs. I know it sounds gross but I just pop them and then they stop hurting that day.

I get them occasionally in my armpits

Started back when my knee was injured, spent 6 months on crutches and they developed from the pressure and sweaty crutch pads.

I can certainly sympathize.

Never had them Nikki but they do sound painful...I hope you feel better very soon!

I have to ask though...brown recluse bites? I thought those critters were pretty bad...deadly even? Was I misinformed?

Yes, I get them occasionally on the underside of my breasts. And you're right, they can really hurt!

I tend to use heat on the area to help bring them to the surface and heal. It works great. Long warm showers with the water running over the area, or sitting with a hot water bottle tucked beneathe my breast on the boil. Also, the key is to keep the area clean and dry in order to promote healing.

Nothing really you can do to prevent them. Just don't pick at them because you will cause infection and scarring.

A boil is actually a pocket of infection under the skin, like a pimple, only bigger. I'd never actually seen one until I moved to Massachusetts five years ago and my son picked up MRSA from somewhere. What a horrible nightmare. Pain, scalpels, pain, pus, gauze, scalpels, and more pain for him, my daughter and eventually myself. *deep shudder*

MRSA is a staph bacteria that is resistant to most antibiotics. Often referred to as a "superbug", it was primarily endemic to hospitals until it escaped into the community several years ago. Boils caused by MRSA are PAINFUL and do not simply pop and heal. If they are too deep to break through the surface on their own, they have to be lanced. After that, they can take several days to drain and heal and they often leave scars.

MRSA colonizes in the nose and, last time I checked, about 30% of the US population is believed to be infected, although most folks won't ever know it. Stress, or anything really that compromises the immune system, can cause a breakout. If it gets into the lungs or the bloodstream, MRSA can be very dangerous, even deadly.

Antibiotics from the 'mycin' family, such as Clindamycin, are the most often prescribed for MRSA. And washing (or, as in my case, SCRUBBING!) a couple of times a week with Hibiclens, an antiseptic/antimicrobial skin cleanser, can help reduce the frequency of infections.

With the level of pain you describe, Nikki, you might want to get tested for MRSA, or, if the docs'll do it, just get a scrip for an appropriate antibiotic. It really helps the boils heal quicker.

Praise the Lord, but my family has been boil free for going on three years now.

Thankyou everyone. I'm actually feeling a bit better
They're not as bad as i thought they were going to be so far. (Usually they start to progress really fast and really turn painful.) So far they're fairly small and haven't been hurting too much tonight. I drained the biggest one a little bit today and thoroughly cleaned the area with antibacterial soap. I've been keeping moist heat on them and that helps
The other one seems to be going away (sometimes i'll get them and they look like they're about to get bad then they just start to go away- thank goodness!
) As far as MRSA goes- i got tested for it a while back when i had another boil and it was negative. They said mine are more stress related
So umm yea- i'm really not sure!
When i go to my dermatologist on Tuesday, i'll ask more about it (it was a different doctor i saw a while back who told me i was negative.) The first 3 boils i had were results of brown recluse spider bites- i am VERY allergic to them. / The other boils i've had since then have mostly been from an ingrown hair here and there or skin irritation is what my doctor said. So far so good today though. Thankyou for the vibes and help everyone! I really appreciate it! I'm hoping the other one goes away and the bigger one stays small and heals quickly
