yesterday i was playing with PIllo with a plastic string about 30 cm long. she has a habit of swallowing plastic strings.
i remember that i was busy annd i think i stuffed the string inbetween some clothes. and then i forgot i about it ad went to sleep for about 30 minnutes.
when i got back i found that the string was gone!!
i 'm not sure if pillo swallowed it but i cant find it anywhere!
what should i do?? Should i take her to the vet? Is there anything they can do?
pillo looks fine for now and so does my other cat, but im scared that when i'm gone she'll barf it out and the string will get caught inbetween her thraot with noone to help her.

Usualy HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR A CAT TO BARF OUT OBJECTS???

PLEASSE HELP I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO
THANKYOUU SO MUCH

String can be very dangerous as it can cause terrible problems in the stomach and intestine, if it gets past the throat. I would call your vet at once and ask them. They may decide to do an Xray at once to see if she has swallowed it. Sometimes they advise waiting to see if it passes, and to meanwhile watch your cat very carefully for any signs of a blockage. More than one member here has lost a cat through swallowing string.

Since you're concerned, you could call the ER vet. They may have you bring her in, but they might also just tell you to watch the cats for any changes (especially changes in appetite or litterbox usage or general lethargy). I'm not sure how long it takes for the string to exit the system (it may pass through or the kitty may vomit). I would keep her in the room with you when you go to bed so that if she does vomit, you'll hear her and can check on her. If you see the string coming from either end, DO NOT PULL ON IT. Clip it just short enough that she can't pull on it either (or put a cone on her to keep her from reaching her back end) and then rush her to the vet. If the string gets pulled tight, it can do a lot more damage.

Good luck! Hopefully she didn't swallow it at all and you'll just find it hidden somewhere.

thankyou guys for the replies
is there any way of knowing if she has swallowed it?
she looks perfectly normal, eating, drinking, playing, pooing normally.

should i feed her the paste that is used or hairballs?
Do uninjestible string pass down or up?
if she is barfing it out how would i know if shes choking?

There is a good chance that somone at home threw it away. how long will it be until i am sure that they didnt swallow the string? More than a month?
Thankyouuu

Keep in mind that a cats digestive system is pretty tough. I mean, they have to deal with bones and stuff in the wild. While it probably wont break down plastic, I dont think that it'd hurt your cat either. Itd be a good idea to consult with the vet, but i'd just call them first before you make an appt. They probably get stuff like this all the time since cats love to eat random stuff and may be able to give you some good advice over the phone. One of my cats ate a couple of rubber bands once, they ended up in the litterbox after a day or so.

I think undigestible string and things like that, would generally come out the back end, rather than vomiting. Just watch her VERY closely for signs of trouble using the litter box, or appetite problems. It wouldn't hurt to call the vet and ask if she should be x-rayed.

Please keep us updated on her!

If you're not even sure she ate the string, I would wait and see. Watch for any symptoms like vomiting or gagging. If she did eat it, particularly if the string is short, it will probably pass.
