I've been watching.

I can understand why adults cannot answer some of the questions. The kids are obviously studying these things currently, whereas its been many years since the adults studied them.

I had no idea that this was even a show until I saw someting on CNN about it this afternoon.

So I went to the website with my dd who is in 4th grade (they have an online quiz). I took it, and I'm not as smart as a 5th grader. It told me that I'm as smart as a 2nd grader and I need a tutor!

Poor dd, she got all upset (she can be very sensitive). So I'm not sure if I'll let her watch it- I don't want her competitive 7th grade sister making her feel bad if she misses a question.

I do like the trivia shows though. It's something different (and not Disney Channel) on brodcast TV that my kids can watch (though we have to screen the commercials)

That is why I hadn't watched it yet, I saw the very last question last night, and I would had to say like that lady did, "I am not smarter than a 5th grader"

Did ya catch the guy tonight (march 1) who said he'd buy a Lamborghini and give it a camouflage paint job? Jeff confirmed that that guy is a redneck.

So far I have answered all the questions though I almost didn't remember femur until the last second. (And I have a degree in biology.)

My husband took it to. He missed one less and it said the same thing.

We both have to keep studying though

I am not smarter than a 5th grader either, but I do think I am smarter than the kids at the kindergarden where I work.

darn, missed it. Will have to try to catch it next week. I might be able to get some of the american questions, thanks to taking a history course in high school. Should be interesting anyways.

Well, I got 3 right so I'm at a 4th grade level.

Out local news did a bit on this and their explaination is that most of these adults haven't "used" this knowledge for 20+ years where as the kids have just learned it so it's fresh in their memory.

Here's the quiz our news posted... you can go here for the answers of PM me.

You can test yourself to see if you are smarter than a fifth grader. Sample questions are listed below:

1. What is the largest South American country by area?

2. Inca civilizations were concentrated on what continent?

3. A heptagon is a shape with how many sides?

4. Emma has 2 yard sticks. She also has a 12-inch ruler. She laid them end-to-end in a line. How many feet long is the line?

5. True or false, the ostrich is the fastest bird on foot?

6. True or false, the Earth's moon gives off its own light?

7. How long is one regular term for a U.S. representative?

8. True or false: A turtle is an amphibian?

9. In the Northern Hemisphere, in what month is the autumnal equinox?

10. If you have a gross of pencils, how many pencils do you have?

Got 'em right!

They are also teaching things in those grades I don't remember studying until later.

I got 7/10, and out-thought myself on the 3 I got wrong.
I had the right answer as my first inclination, but then decided I wasn't that smart. (I couldn't remember if it was the Emu or Ostrich that was the fastest, I put the equinox in October due to Halloween, but had first thought September 21 (which is really stupid!), and thought 2 years was too short of a term for the House)

I got 9/10.

I think that show is exaggerating a little. There is no way a 1st grader could spell pledge of allegiance or know how many e's were in it unless they were shown the phrase. And I think the contestants must have to pass a "dumb" test to make sure they're not too smart.

HOwever, they do teach things much earlier than in my elementary school days. (many, many years ago)

on that test I got 7/10, I missed the autumnal eqquinox, also thought it was October Heidi, had no idea what a "gross" was, and thought the house of reps was 4 years

I haven't been able to watch the show all week, but my mom tried to stump me on 2 questions from last night at lunch today and called me a bad name when I got them right

I watched it other nite. What is REALLY sad is that grown people do not know the answers to simple questions. I could answer them within 1-2 seconds! The only one I was not quite sure of was the trapazoid one. I didn't remember that one....geez.
