secretion from the eyes

hi everyone, i was wondering if anyone could tell me what a secretion around my cats eyes means... its kind of a white mucus-like substance. does anyone have any ideas on what this is? i'm really worried about my cat, it seems to be really irritating her eye. thanks.

Maybe some type of eye infection, start of a respiratory infection, or allergies. A visit to the vet would be appropriate. If it's an infection you will probably be given terramycin to administer to the cat.
