Hi, Does any one know why my female cat is carrying these toys we have round like babies , she keeps hiding them( there is 4 of these toys , look like little white sheeps) then suddenly she appears crying with one in her mouth then puts it on my knee ? I am trying to breed her with my tom but that doesnt seem to be happening , he is 1 year old and she is 18 months . He does nothing but make a funny cry and she keep carrying these toys round . Can anybody help with this? Thanks

she wouldnt be having a fantom pregnancy ? are you sure they have never mated and it just didnt take , but she still feels like she is pregnant?
or it could be a play thing , i have a cat who will carry around his toy in his mouth , he hides it so the other cats dont play with it . and he crys when he cant find it lol.
how long did you last try to mate them ?
and are you a registered breeder?

Thanks for your reply . Do you think they could of mated? breeding her with my own male only once if they can , just cause i think its nice to let them have one lot of kittens.so not a breeder . Dont think its a play thing cause she keep following me around everywhere i go and crying, with the toys in her mouth. Its really sweet but dont know if she is stressed. She did do it last month for a few day then she hide then , i tried finding then but couldnt find them anywhere then two days ago they reappear and now there everywhere she goes again!!!! wierd..any help. Thanks

Loubylou....TCS does not advocate breeding non-pedigreed cats as there are so many that are in shelters that are looking for homes. What I would recommend that you do is to get your cat spayed and your tom neutered and then offer to foster for a local rescue group. Other reasons to have your cat spayed includes a decreased chance of certain cancers and pyometra.

http://www.sniksnak.com/cathealth/pyometra.html

If the mating is successful...as a responsible owner, I would expect you to no less than 1. have your male neutered (once pregnancy is confirmed) and kept away from your female until she is spayed 2. have your female spayed once the kittens are weaned. 3. Either have the kittens spayed/neutered or follow up with the new owners to ensure that every kitten is spayed/neutered.

Hi yes they do rome round together , they are house cats? What will it mean false pregnancy? Do you they will not mate? Could it be part of her being on heat? The last few days while she has been doing this ,he has been very interested more than normal?thanks

my guess is he and her are not fixed and they have mated. It might not have taken and she could have all signs of p-regnancy but no babies
I will try to find the link to it here and post it. 2 intact cats roaming together will at some point end up parents.

hiya sorry i havnt been on since this morning.
seen as your male and female could have already mated , i think maybe a vet check up is in order , they will do a health check and be able to tell you weather or not she is pregnant.
seen as you are not a registered breeder i will urge you to let this be the only litter. no point in me telling you not to do this and not to do that as you didnt come here for a leture lol.
but please do get them both spayed and neutered and like TNR! said if you cannot get the kittens S/N then please do follow ups to make sure there new owners will.
if for some reason you cant get to a vet, then maybe go along with the idea she may be pregnant , better to be safe then sorry. start her on a high qulity kitten food , wet and dry kind. set up a few birthing boxs and nearer the time you think she may be due maybe set her up in her own room with a litter tray , water and food ( make sure you dont use the clumping litter as when the kittens start to get around they will eat litter and this kind is not good for there stomachs.
feel free to PM me if you have any other questions or if you would just like a chat.

Thanks for your reply , i will only let her have one litter . will be keeping then all in the family. Do you think this could be a sign of early pregnancy ? Will take to vets this week but any help or advice before is helpful. Thanks

have you checked her nipples? if they are bigger and pinker this is a sign, at about 3 weeks this happens , but can also be a sign with false pregnancys.
some cats will have a touch of *morning sickness* some will become more loving , or may not be so loving. please do keep me updated , and remember Pm anytime im not on all day here but i can maybe give you my msn address as that is normally left on all day , just incase you wanted quick advise.
but all the advise you get on TCS is normally great anyway.

Truly....early pregnancy is very hard to confirm by anyone other than a vet, so it's best to take her in and have her seen.

I'm glad you will be keeping any kittens...but do be prepared (in case mom decides she is tired of her motherly duty) for some roughhousing/swatting and even hissing from mom. Make sure you have a place where mom can be on her own if she wants some time away from her kittens. Also, it is critical that dad is neutered once pregnancy is confirmed.

some mothers get along great with there babys , i kept to of lillys litter ,. and she dosnt want anything to do with them , there now nearlly 7 months old and she will growl at them or hiss.
the reason for neutering the tom straight away is because it can take up to 6 weeks before everything is out of his system. and mum can get pregnant after only a few days or few weeks after she has delivered her kittens.

Years ago ,i did the same with my other cats kept one of her babies and they were so loving together but sadly mum died last year . still got baby who is now 12 years old . I keep them separate for periods of the day so they all have times to be on there own but all go mad when they are back together ,like they not seen each other for a long time. Will definatley get him spayed after i know she is ,otherwise he will not leave her alone. thanks

if the nipples havnt pinked up yet she is either 1-2 weeks pregnant , or she may be in heat? you said before your male was showing more intrest in her the last few days , this could be why. take her to the vet as planned see what they say , that will be your best option. they will also do a full health check , so if she isnt at least you know she is healthy enough to mate and have a litter.
