Hi!

Hi, I just joined.
I need advice with my cats so I decided to join, also hoping to learn some more.
My one cat, very dear to me passed away this December, but the younger cat I have just moved into my new apartment with me. Her name is Xena, and I am only allowed to have one cat, so she'll prolly be the only cat I will be talking about. Although, I live in the city and next door is a lot with a dozen kitten strays local students feed. And the college I go to has tons and tons of cats they take in and are part of campus life. So I'm around cats a lot, but only close to Xena.

A little about her... shes seven, I got her from a no-kill shelter in the country. She has an ear cyst, which we decided against surgery, but I have to clean her ear every week or so, because it itches her. When she was 1 or 2 she had head trauma, but recovered almost completely. She is a very happy cat, especially since she got to move in with me (she missed me my first year of college).

So I hope to learn some new things and try and help other people out.

hello and a warm welcome to you and your kitty. Sorry to hear about your other kit but I bet you get tons of pleasure from Xena, she is obviously a special lady Its great here, theres always lots to do and see, it soon becomes a bit of an addiction

to TheCatSite and THANK YOU for adopting Xena from a no-kill shelter. I'm so glad she found you -- you sound like a very loving caregiver for her. Our deepest sympathy to you on the loss of your other dear cat -- we know how hard it is to lose a beloved feline. FYI, if the kittens and cats you mention are outside and are being fed as a colony, do the caregivers know about Alley Cat Allies? It's the national feral/homeless cat advocacy organization and can give them a lot of good information and possibly help with getting the cats sterilized, vaccinated, checkups, and kittens adopted into loving homes. Their website is http://www.alleycat.org in case you want to give it to the students.

All 9 felines here are rescued, indoor-only and spayed/neutered, of course. I've lived with, loved, rescued, and advocated for cats all my life, and am always so glad to hear when people do the right thing by cats. Yeah, I never get my cats at pet stores. Always "no-kill" or local farms where my parents live.
As for the strays, I'll try and catch one of the students next time I see them. I live in NYC so stray cats are extremly common, I only planned to call like ASPCA if I saw any of them injured. I always look for them on my way to school. Maybe they guy that owns the lot owns them too... hmm
